The PD-150 is a 4:3 camera. It does not do 16:9 at all, it just basically crops the 4:3 image down and then blows it up, making a mess in the process. You’re far better off shooting 4:3 and cropping in post. Basically, nothing really can fix the mess Sony makes, other than using that famous “reshoot” filter. Sorry.

FCP doesn’t come on a DMG disk image though. There’s no image to mount. If you can’t install FCP 4.5 perhaps you need to speak to Apple.

It’s an analogue device that’s also a sampling based system, in that it has discrete photosites. It’s not analogue in the sense of a tube camera, or digital in the sense of CMOS – somewhere inbetween….

Thanks for the info. Although the way I read it, with it’s “wide pixels” is something like 1280×720 with pixelshift in the DSP to 1280×1080, and then downconvert to 1080i, 720p etc. Perhaps. I don’t know.

I’m a Decklink user. I like their products. I bought my Decklink full price from a dealer, like everyone else. I’m not in their pay. I don’t get special treatment from them, just very good service when needed. However, I won’t ever say that Decklink are the only game in town, the only card worth considering. That’s because AJA make good products too. Competition is good. I happen to prefer the Decklinks, and I certainly prefer their lower prices. I know you have issues with the Decklink, but that’s no reason to completely dismiss it out of hand like that. I will recommend the Kona2 to people who need that one particular feature it has which the Decklink lacks, and as long as they’re not running really long SDI cables, they’ll be fine. However, for everyone else, the Decklinks work, are cheaper, and don’t have issues with long cables.

I guess both the DVD player and FCP must alter Y’CbCr video in a 2.5 gamma to play properly on an RGB monitor with 1.8 gamma. I think they both do it a little differently that’s all.

FCP lies to you in it’s monitor. You must view on a PAL monitor, or you’re not seeing it right.
