I hope so too. There’s no need to treat the larger PAL market as second class citizens. It shows a lack of respect. PAL customers have always had higher prices or less features or both. And really there’s no need for it.

Both “10bit” and “High Precision YUV” rendering have always been broken. They fixed a couple of bugs for FCP5 but not all.

I’m sure if they’d designed the camera from scratch to be both PAL and NTSC, it would do all these things easily, but they didn’t. I’m sure that camera would still be in the wooden block stage and not ready for release to the public.

You’re darn tooting right! Dubbing DVCproHD to HDCAM is just loosing you quality before you begin! Going direct from the DVCproHD cuts only edit master to D5 is definately your best bet, but would you not be further ahead using a colourist with a nice, modern, non-linear Final Touch, than going down the rather antiquated tape to tape route?
BTW, REC601 and 709 are colour spaces, 4:2:2 and 3:1:1 are chroma sampling notations.

Unfortunately, you will get choppy results on video that moves to fast. However, if you’d shot film on the same subject matter, with the same speed of pans, it would also look choppy – that’s part of the nature of 24p. You can also do 30p with Film Effects, which again, by it’s nature is less choppy, and because the Film Effects de-interlacers are superior you’ll get better results than the free method.
Not forgetting, of course, the gamma plugins in Film Effects, and what they can do to even very well shot HD video, are worth their weight in gold, never mind the rest of the package.
Oh, and did I mention the best darn tech support in the business…

A lot of people just don’t “get” FW. Strange really.
Yes, DVCProHD is really too compressed for mastering, but then again so is HDCAM….. And I’m leaning towards thinking, that practically ANY compression is too much for a master…. But we’re not quite there yet in terms of storage needed.
