    oh i forgot to mention…

i export the footage from FCP as 422Lt self contained movie.. i do this to keep best quality and resultion for the end process of burning a dvd . so the file size into Compressor is very large in size 40 to 50 gig if it was to be compressed as a single clip…

    is this okay?

    Hi Nick,

Aplogies about the delay in replying..

Brilliant and your a trooper… exactly as you said… the nudging of frames does not affect any edits prior to the last one in the multiclip so thats a huge bonus after all my hard work.. the trick i guess is to press save project so it does not alter any previous edits.. i copied the project before i tried as you advised…

Really apprecaite you replying to my frustrating issue.

Can i ask a question/advise… is it safer, easier and quicker to send anything from FCP to compressor by creating an export QT file then bringing it into Compressor as appose to sending it directly to compressor from FCP?

    THanks,

    Best

  • Oh as i mentioned the storage was not a problem .. speed and time management is.. The main reason i work 1920 x 1080 is excatly as dave mentioned in the thread- Futire Proof for the clients.

  • Thankyou gentlemen,

So I am at peace that i am doing everything correctly and easily (on the workflow) as can be … i am using a small 1TB USB 3 hardrive… i guess what suprised me was that fact that with all the concversions, play outs, mpge 2 conversions etc, from start to finish.. i was using nearly 600gig of storage space for this one project… mind you it is nearly 2 hours long though…
I guess just the time time and manpower taken with conversions etc – i wondred if i was making too much work formyself … I have no other apps or pragrammes running while working on FCP 7 and i use a 21 inch Imac at the mo with 16 gig ram and 500 gig internal Memory.

Shane i am very slowly beginning to understand the pro’s & Cons dare i say it with FCP??

I appreciate you guys taking the time to read and reply to my thread. cheers

  • Hi Shane,

Thanks for your reply… for the time being i only have FCP 7 and really want to master this if i can… storage is not an issue for me as pointed out it is very cheap to buy … the issue is more about am i doing the right thing working 1920 x 1080 all the way from start to finish, or this is not road to go down.?

    Cheers

  • Hi David,,

Thank you for your reply. Correct me if i am wrong. Are you saying that from the original material,my workflow and conversions should not need to be more 720 x 576 as this is the maximum quality I need to for a standard DVD. Would this make everything generally faster, My concern is not storage space as pointed out i am very aware storage is very cheap and i have plenty of it… the point i think i was trying to convey is that, working 1920 X 1080 right from the start to the very end … is this much more computer processing time which in turn would affect real time viewing on the canvas and viewer etc. Am i making to much work for myself unnessarily ??..
