    Isn’t it Option P?

  • I understand what you mean so thanks Nicole.
You have also taught me that G-Speed is apparently quieter than Cal-Digit drives. Good stuff to know.
You’ve been very kind and I believe that G-Speed will be the option I’ll settle for.
If only I could get their sales people to answer the supplementary questions I asked earlier today.
They must be very busy selling stuff.
    Have a nice weekend.

  • Nicole, that helps a lot thank you.
I will have my new RAID sitting about 3′ away from me but in a cupboard with a glass door.

I know It’s difficult to answer ‘how noisy is noisy?’ – it’s like asking how long is a piece of string?
However, would you mind telling me how old your units are as I understand the fans were quietened down a few months ago. So would you say that your drives are more or less noisy than your (I assume Mac) computer? Mine’s a Mac Pro.
    Many thanks, Godfrey

  • Thanks Russell, that’s interesting and a good price.
I’ll check it out to see if anyone has anything to say about its quietness.
I see there’s something else I hadn’t heard of – Micronet Raid Bank.
Seems to offer 8tb for $3k-ish.

Aaron, thank you too for responding so quickly.
I looked at the G-Speed FC and it is considerably more expensive than the ES Pro.
And a friend just called saying how happy he is with his ES.
So far, it seems to be winning.
You’re right about the Apple X-RAID being so noisy – but shhh!
I’m going to have to sell it soon.

Shane, I am certainly appreciative of your suggestions but the CalDigit RAID website says that “2TB systems start at just $3999”.
And the EVO HD2 is similarly priced.
So in terms of bang for buck, the G-Speed ES Pro wins hands down.
    Thanks again though.

Well don’t go away mad Richard. Oh, too late!
You may be right, you may be wrong, but in my ignorance I now have a great looking 1440 x 1080 scroll via Photoshop and AE, thanks to the excellent tips I received.
Once again thank you, I appreciate the passion you have applied to my question.
I am officially a happy bunny.

    Over and out.

Well all I know is that I did exactly what Twitchmonkey said – and it came out looking great.
I thank you both for your learned input.

Daryl, you truly are the gift that keeps on giving.
This means I don’t have to do any recapturing, or change any timeline – just obey your good housekeeping tips when it comes to edl and backup QT’s.

Thank you so much for this, and thanks again.
I will now go ahead with renewed confidence.

    My best.
