I was playing around and discovered something odd. I made a new multicam clip and edited it with the “view angles” option and it didn’t have the choppy audio issue with each new edit. I thought back on what I did differently with the first clip. With the first clip I was playing around with double clicking on the freshly made multicam clip to view it in full detail in its own little timeline and from that position i raised the volume a good bit. After doing that I went back to the actual timeline and made my edits. I’m wondering if that volume adjustment somehow caused the issues on the initial clip when I switched back to the timeline. I’m not sure why it would but I suppose it could have something to do with it.

Thanks for the info. The footage is on an external hard drive with USB 3.0 and the h264 footage is 1080 from a canon dslr 7d and 60d. I’ll give optimization a shot if I can’t get it to smooth out. I’ll also try rendering out a tiny piece and see how that works. Thanks again for your time!

I forgot to put the hard drive. I’m away from my system but I believe it’s a 120gb SSD hard drive.

Thanks for the quick reply. It’s h264 and I’m running Yosemite with a 4gb video card and 32gb of ram. I was concerned about editing h264 but several editors on here told me it could handle it.

Awesome info. Thanks so much, guys! I’m really enjoying using it so far. I’ve watched tons of training videos and taken notes and it honestly hasn’t been tricky at all so far. I edited on Resolve a little prior to this and they have similar setups so maybe that helped the transition.

I have noticed that I can only use the built in audio syncing option if the audio and video clip are stored in the same event. Is that accurate or is there a way around that?

If you guys encountered any issues that you wish you’d known about when you first started using fcpx I’d love to hear them. So far it feels like I’m going about it the right way….if that makes any sense.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately they don’t have matching time codes. It does seem to be working fine now as long as I sync using the built in option in fcx.

I think I figured it out to some extent. The situation happened when I used plural eyes to sync the audio. When I used the built in syncing program in fcx it seems to allow me to keep the 5 tracks editable without any trouble. Odd.

    So far so good. ☺
I’m messing with syncing audio. In the past I’ve just manually synced, but I’m trying to use faster methods. Do you guys use the sync tool within fcx? There doesn’t seem to be a way to do it once you’ve put your clips into the timeline. I’m playing around with syncing them in the browser, but it seems they must be in the same event for it to work.
    Thanks for any info!

September 20, 2016 at 4:03 pm in reply to: Best place to buy used imac?

Unfortunately, the only info it shows is that it’s 256GB SSD storage. I’d love to get you guys’ opinion on the potential purchase.

    USED VERSION
    “Excellent condition fully-loaded iMac Retina 5K 27″, late-2014 model with AppleCare through October 19, 2017. 4.0Ghz Intel Core i7 Quad, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5 graphics, and 256GB SSD storage.”

From what I can figure up I could get a brand new imac through apple for around $2550 (with the additional memory from crucial) that has a comparable configuration, yet slightly more current parts. OR the used system listed above.. which has an auction price and will continue to increase by the end time. I’m basically trying to figure out how much savings is worth going with the used version versus just having the brand new one.

At the moment I’m telling myself that if I can save $500 or so then it’s worth it to go used. Any thoughts from you guys? I greatly appreciate you taking the time to chime in!
