Please assist me if you can.

I made a project with two clips just as you did(FC X), but I have not modified the clips in any way. Also, have not shared to project as an Export file. Just put two clip in a new project. The screen I get is just like the one you got. Cannot think of the “invalid parameters.”

I read your reply when it came out and agree. I’ve been looking for a computer and am still in the process. Thought I had the answer but the more i looked the more I realized that I need to be careful with my selection to be sure that I really get the right set-up. Your email made me slow down on computer selection. There is one company near Atlanta where I live that builds computers for video. Just need to plan my next move a little more given the dollars involved.

Until then, I’ve dusted off Final Cut Express because I needed to get something done. The Apple products are stable as I mentioned before, but Vegas is my favorite editing software, so I’ll get Vega Pro 11 soon.

    Thanks!

    Steve,

I’m heading in one of two directions and wanted any thoughts you have. FIrst, I could not resolve my issue. Cleaned up hard drive, bought new fire wire to be sure about the cable, down-loaded Studio 11 trial version and none of that worked. As soon as I hit the Capture button, the program goes back to the time line.

So, first option being considered is to buy a new PC (I found one with firewire, and it’s a pretty powerful unit with a good graphics card, i7 chip, etc. and buy the $135 version of Studio 11. (Actually, I’d down load the trial version first.) Option two is to spend much more but transition to an Apple Pro computer and Pro X. I’m torn. Sony option is cheaper, but Sony has weak product support. I could never get anyone on the phone regarding tech support (was going to pay the $30,00 to get support but wanted ask a few questions first). Could not get through. Also, on the Sony support page, after I log into my account, I try to use the email support option. It makes you login again and then says my password is wrong–the password I logged in with already! So, the Studio 11 package comes with unlimited email support–is that worth even considering? Is there really support by email that one can place any reliance on?

I really like the Sony software and have used it for years, but I just don’t know if I’m not taking the hint that it’s time to move to Apple. The OS is more stable than Windows, and I can buy a year of Pro X training for $99.

I’m into video as a serious enthusiast, and could go the Apple route if I wanted to. I’ve upgrade Studio many times over the years and they seem to have some of the old issues resolved but I’m not sure about sticking with it. The pull is that I just love the logic and functionality of the program–what kills me is the bugs that get you just flat stuck.

Sorry for the long note. Thoughts?

Thank you. Some of what you’ve suggested is probably more that I can handle, but I will see what I can figure out, The problem is getting worse. I thought it had some thing to do with the DV tape itself because I was able to capture from another one to a new destination folder on an external hard drive (I always use an external hard drive for my media files), but now with a fresh tape, new video on it and a new destination folder, the second I start to capture, the preview box disappears. I’ve tried two cameras, new tape, and went to default on as many settings as I could. I just can’t understand how the work flow I have followed countless times led to an issue.

Finally, when I go into the options to click the Preview or Smart preview, the choices are all grey and cannot be changed. The preview button is set, but the blue box is telling me “preview is turned off.” Of course, that has always been true over the countless times I have used the program.

I’m going to wipe as much off the hard drive as I can and google clearing the registers and reload the software because it has to be finding old files given that I am getting error messages about “the last capture failing, etc.”

No need to reply but if my ramble triggers any more suggestions, please let me know. And, again, thank you for taking the time to help me.

I’d like to reply to my own comment because it’s misleading. I have worked with the Vegas Movie Studio series a lot over the years but moved to another program due to frustration particularly around rendering, but overall, it’s a compelling program with a lot of amazing capability for the money.

I did something wrong in my recent rendering effort that took about 24 hours to render. I have now re-done the rendering effort, and the 30 minute movie should render in about 2 hours. This is consistent with what I remember from before–it’s about 2 times the project time. I am rendering as a Quick Time file hoping that’s a useful format.

I’ve found some very good tutorials on Youtube that I hope will allow me to master this program once and for all!

I used to use Vegas a lot but got tired of the many issues (error messages after hours of rendering). I’m back because I fundamentally like the program, but I made a very simple 30 minute movie and the render time is over 19 hours! Unbelievable.
