Okay so I checked my graphic card settings from my control panel and it said “found no better drivers” when I did the “check for update” option. I then went to the Nvidia site and I used the drop down to find an update for my card (Nvidia quadro fx 4500) and there was one update but it said xp 2000 or xp pro 64 bt, and I’m xp pro 2002 32 bt so I got nervous and didn’t download it. Later I went back and I noticed that there was a link to have them search your system for you and there it was 77.56 (it might have been the same one I saw earlier but I’m not sure) anyway, I ran it and I rebooted and I can render out now big size and all, no flashes, or flickers hooray!!! Happy dance time – and you were right of course Alan! Yippy!!!

You know I started over from scratch twice and the first time it was from my same file, and it still did the flickering. Then I started from a new scene all together and it doesn’t have the flickering! I did notice a difference, when my fails were rendering the program was showing me the little tiny preview window in the panel (I think the pI render panel?), but this successful time, that window didn’t show up, instead it filled my whole screen when it was rending (and I saw it frame by frame full screen) and I could tell it was good.

I am using 2 emitters from space_01.IL3, I have Space Explosion 1 and Space Explosion 2, they are both starting at frame 1 from the same position. I do have debris hand one of the rings hidden, I changed the settings for those to be zero thinking that they might be interacting somehow but the flickering is still there.

I tried to run software rendering, it still flickers. All the other particles are fine it’s just this one, I even have another one that I made with two particles together like this, big swirling with the smile face emitter, no problems there and combustion and every thing else is also running fine. The two that I am using in this problem scene have lots of sparkles and light parts…

I’m just rending to jpg, it appears that the alpha is not available for that – so I’m assuming no. Do they need to be on a different layer?

Okay thank you!

Wait a minute, I just did a right click onto the white area where the emitter files are, and under quick load library I see them……. it would be great if this was included somehow in the install read me. Anyway, how do I get all my folders to show up at one time, with my default folders? So I won’t have to do this, so that I can see them all together upon opening the program?

Terrific, thank you Steve. I really appreciate this information : ) Gina

Of course the parts are all made in various programs: Max 2008, Vegas Pro, Photoshop but they will all be put together in combustion. I’m working on a BOXX workstation.
I’m actually not done yet, but I want to know these questions ahead of time so that I am prepared and don’t face any surprises. So I can’t tell you how big it is yet.
It will be a full feature length film (might even be longer). I need to keep the three options in mind as I work (although of course I realize that they might not end up being output to all film, dvd, or tv – in fact it might be only one) but I need to be prepared for all. When it’s done, how do I get my “master” created? And how do all the outputs from the master get created? Thank you, Gina
