Solved, seems that it was because the lighting source was a neon light, hence the flickering. I don’t know how to fix it on the 5D, though. I thought I was doing well by filming at PAL 25 with shutter spedd 1/50 (I was in Italy).

Hi,
I have the same problem, so I tried your tutorial (the second part, since I store videos directly on the Hard Drive).
I need to edit 720p@24 fps videos taken with 3 cameras: 2 nikon d5000 and 1 jvc hm100.
I converted everything to ProRes HQ, also because the video taken with the jvc was @50fps, I had to reduce it to 24. I’m editing with FCP 6.0.6.
I stored the files on an external WD firewire hard drive, and I used media manager to make offline RT HD @24 versions of the ProRes originals, then edited in multicam. I saved the Offline vids in a folder on the same disk, as it’s the only one I have.
Everything works, I go through multiclip edit perfectly, except when I relink the ProRes videos to export in High Resolution. At that moment the videos become oversized, and they exceed the Sequence resolution. I also get an error message when relinking the online media, saying that the A/V inputs are different. What would be a nice solution?

Such a quick response!
I did what you suggested and everything is fine now, thanks a lot!
2 more tips, if someone bumps here with the same problem:
after installing
• verify file permissions: right click the ProRes package (within Pacifist) and click “Verify”. If some file permissions are not matching, change them as suggested using terminal.
To do it, change directory:cd /Library/QuickTimethensudo chmod <permission codes> <filename>eg:sudo chmod 775 AppleProres422.component
• reboot-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-

October 7, 2010 at 9:21 am in reply to: Jittering from DV PAL to DVD standard 90 min (using compressor)I’m back, with new info.
I did some tests, here the results:As you can see, best result with LCD TV, LFF.
Acceptable LFF on CRT TV.
Bad and disturbing to view with UFF, on both TV.The last footage, taken with a D5000 is just a bit flickering but just because was taken at 24 fps and I dind’t speed it up to match 25 fps, but the overall impression is fine.
Can’t the jittering thing be due to the low quality of the camera?

October 5, 2010 at 10:39 pm in reply to: Jittering from DV PAL to DVD standard 90 min (using compressor)My bad!
I’m always confused about field dominance.
I got the info from “MediaInfo Mac”, a free software which tells all the metadata of video files. FCP says 25 fps 720×576. Weird. I captured it with FCP, Log and Capture process went well, no frame-dropping messages. I wonder…is it normal that FCP saved the file as a .mov? I thought it would save it as a .dv file, though the clip properties say “compressor: DV – PAL”Unfortunately I’m just an amateur and the only hardware I use is just my MBPro and an external firewire HDD.
Tomorrow I’ll try to export the video with different settings ona dvd-rw and test it on my dvd player.
I’ll come back with more detailed information.
Thanks everybody for your help, so far!“If you don’t know what it is, it’s JAZZ!” – Novecento (A. Baricco)

October 5, 2010 at 4:47 pm in reply to: Jittering from DV PAL to DVD standard 90 min (using compressor)@Chad: I wrote here because I think it’s a FCP problem, if I find out that it deals with compressor, I’ll move to the Compressor section of the forum.
@Chris: yes, it jitters when the camera pans. But you can see it a bit also when the camera is still. It’s weird because PAL by default is Lower Field First, not Upper.
Anyway, I tried to change the parameter, but when I click file>export>using compressor, that’s what happens, doesn’t matter if lower or upper field are selected (see attached imgs).
In the compressor window you can notice the jitter thing. Even if the video preview is paused and no preset is selected. Can you see the difference between the fcp window and the compressor windows?FCP window
compressor window lower field
compressor window upper field“If you don’t know what it is, it’s JAZZ!” – Novecento (A. Baricco)

August 15, 2010 at 3:22 pm in reply to: ODD: jitter only in some parts of the same videoThanks Michael,
I checked again the original dvd: actually, it’s divided in 2 “chapters”, because i stopped the camera after 1 hour and i filmed the second hour on a new footage. The second part is fine, the first part is jittering from the beginning to the end. At this point, it must be a problem of filming, or a problem of the camera software that the owner used to put the video on the dvd.
Since I noticed it only now, after the hours and hours of work I spent for editing in multicam mode (and I won’t be paid for this!) I think I will leave everything as it is: I can’t start it over again, and the video is still enjoyable as it is an amateur footage.
It’ strange, tough, that the problem is on the original dvd… I’m curious about it, how can it be that a camera messes up a video while filming?
Thanks indeed for your help, hope this could be helpful for someone else with the same problem.
