Thanks, Jeff. Yes, other friends have told me it’s closer to a stop than a half stop, in spite of the specs and the rental house claims.

And thanks for the tip about helping building the rig. No need for white shading on a 1/3″ CCD?

    Thanks, Helmut.

They claim 5 years of daily use, a good investment so long as they work just as well as the “High Performance” originals.

My only remaining question is whether my HVX200 can run 64GB cards. I upgraded firmware to take the 16GB, but haven’t use any larger cards. Any idea (Panasonic’s site is hard to decode)

    Thanks, both.

Yes, Jeremy, I meant the P+S Technik, which seems to be the best of the lot. But the rental house in Dallas where I’ll be shooting has the Letus, says it’s a half-stop of loss, is user mountable, and the price is right, so looks like what I’ll try.

    Thanks again for the advice.

Jeremy’s right about 720PN. I’ve been using it for a year for DVD and web output, and it’s wonderful. I saved lots of P2 space and images look great.

    Michael,
I haven’t yet used ProRes. Is there a reason to use it instead of DVCProHD? Should I convert in Compressor either way?

    Thanks

Brilliant. Can’t believe I’ve lived with those anonymous numbers for so long. To be clear, though, it sounds as if the key is to assign a name in Log and Transfer rather than in FCP 6, so that FCP makes the connection between the two names in future relinking, no?

    Thanks again.

    Thanks, Jeremy.
If I rename them in Log & Transfer what happens if I trash my capture scratch then–at a later date–want to relink a project to the MXF files. Will the new files names relink with Panasonic’s numerical names?

Thanks, especially for the MXF4Mac tip.

    FYI,

Worked as promised by Panasonic’s site. A key instruction is to keep powered by AC rather than battery, since losing power during the firmware upgrade is to be avoided at all costs.
