Hi Gary,

This does look like a very cool card. On the AJA website they mention the 2K workflows, and I was hoping you could clarify a few things.

Does the 3G card allow you work with existing DPX files directly or do you have to use the DPXToQT Translator to create reference QuickTime files? Is the latter workflow a pretty straight forward process.

How specifically are RED and Alexa workflows accelerated?

Thanks for your response! You really weren’t unclear, I just wanted to be sure.

Before you did the swap did you test any HD footage on your 2008 Mac Pro? I am wondering of the 2008 Mac Pro would work for uncompressed DPX footage, or maybe ProRes 4:4:4.

I am a bit confused since the thread discusses both Color and Resolve. Which package gave you the 17 FPS rate with R3D files? Did you try Resolve with your 2008 Mac Pro?

Yep! And here is hoping that for once the Mac won’t be stuck with the wimpier card. Between Resolve and Smoke being Mac solutions it’s about time the Mac got the top of the line Quadro card.

One argument is that Linux price helps BMD recoup the R&D cost of the significantly more complex Linux product. I doubt that BMD bought DaVinci with a 1K software product as their endgame.

I think Mac users are getting a subsidized product and I don’t blame BMD for not making it easy for others to build their own Linux systems.
