Hi, Jeff. Currently, Avid DS does not support AVX2. However Sapphire v2 (AVX1 version) does work fine on it, even including some AVX1.5 features like optional inputs in tree mode.

You should be able to conform your customers’ sequences if they use either Sapphire v1 or v2, as long as they stick to the AVX1 version.

Sapphire works on Intel for AE, FCP, Combustion, Premiere Pro and Avid, but Motion has removed support for all AE plug-ins on Intel Macs. It now only supports FxPlug-based plug-ins.

Hi WhiteNoise; Sapphire has always been true MP enabled; it even runs on 32-CPU IRIX boxes, so it should do well on an 8-core Mac. To see what’s fixed in the latest releases on Mac, go to the GenArts web site: https://www.genarts.com/download-sapphire-ae-mac.html

Wow — 8 cpus! Drool! 🙂 You should see a nice speedup in your Sapphire effects, especially at HD res. Make sure you’re using the latest version (1.10).

Hi Erik — this may be an Avid AVX2 host bug, especially if your Avid is earlier than 5.6. What version of Avid and Sapphire are you using? You can follow up with us at support@genarts.com if you like. Also make sure you have the latest Sapphire (2.05).

Hi Grinner — in Sapphire, try turning off Clamp Output To Legal. It defaults On to prevent outputting too-hot colors.

I assume you’re using Sapphire2 for AVX2 on an Avid. This is actually an Avid bug; the auto keyframes for the transition are not elastic like normal keyframes. To fix it, before you change the transition duration go to the effect editor, right click on the Wipe Amount or Dissolve Amount keyframe graph, and click Elastic. Then the keyframes will auto-adjust with the transition length.

Unfortunately the current version of Combustion doesn’t support the features we need to add this support in Sapphire. Hopefully a future version of Combustion will allow us to add widgets.

That should definitely work. In that case, you’re probably alt-dropping the Blur onto the title rather than just dropping it (to replace the title effect). Alt-dropping an effect nests it, so in that case the input the effect sees would be the result of the title effect, which is already composited (i.e. the title over the bg), so it would blur everything.

Does it work if you do it without the alt-drop?
