However, it won’t work in a lot of the old P2 cameras, including the referenced AG-HVX201AE.

P2 is simply not well supported for ingest by Panasonic unless you’re willing to drop thousands on the solution.

Any current MacBook Pro will probably lap the ’08 Mac Pro.

Have you seen the previous FirePro PCIe cards? How exactly do you think they are going to shrink that down into a user replaceable part? It will definitely have to be soldered on to the mainboard, just like EVERY OTHER Mac machine aside from the ancient currently purchasable iteration of the Mac Pro.

You also thought it would be impossible for Final Cut Pro 7 projects to be imported into FCPX because of the under-the-hood Voodoo it supposedly did.

Easily the best bullet point for the C500 over Red is that you have a crazy amount of options over what you want to shoot in, from 1080p 4:2:2 50Mbps XF to 4k raw (and options in-between those two). With Red, you get Redcode, and then 1/2 debayered SDI output for anything else.

Red, however, gives you more framerate options, including the ability to do HFR, which the C500 won’t do.

C500 will be a bit more compact setup depending on what you get for external recording. You also give up the handheld cability of the C300 because the grip is replaced with more connectors.
