Hi I did not see that last post last time I was here.

I have been advised by the production manager at the local tv station photos should be 1024 x 576 and the render should be MPEGII at 720×576. Audio should be 1 sec shorter than the visuals. This is in PAL.

I’ve tried this to render to DVD and it does come out in widescreen but definately not good quality, the tv display does not come close to what I have acheived on You Tube using the same pictures. You Tube seems to appreciate sharpened images while DVD and tv does not.

Here is an example of the sort of slideshows/vids I’ve been doing some amazing Humpback Whale pics here so you shouldn’t mind watching some. As a result of this sort of slideshow I have produced I’m now being asked to produce DVD and TV ads.

I cannot afford a camcorder at the present time and still studying my photography. Most video shot by others that I’m seeing is overexposed, too bright, solar flaring and when I take pics of the whales I underexpose by one stop to avoid solar flaring in the photos. After seeing others camcorder efforts it would seem that a camcorder would have to be able to underexpose to acheive the better quality as well.

Basically I have to make these vids frame by frame using the best pics I have or that the operators give me. I usually have to go get them myself.

Thanks for that info John it will help immensely. It’s a little weird that the same vids look perfect on You Tube but I guess it is a different file format for You Tube than for DVD.

Just so you know I have bought the 9 Vegas training DVD’s from Vaast and had them shipped to Australia so I do subscribe to Vaast. Some of the training in those vids is for the full blown Vegas software.

I was wondering if you could tell me what the advantage is for the full blown Vegas program over the Movie Studio version. When I bought Movie Studio (6 months ago)I didn’t realise there was another version. Are you able to just an upgrade for an extra cost or must I buy the full blown program?

Also I was a bit disappointed that Sony dropped Cinescore before I could get the bulk of the themes. I got some and thought I would just buy as I could afford it but I can’t get them anywhere now so am at a loss for the music I need to have my own copyright music.

I talked an ex band member into buying Vegas and the themes at the same time I did so we could collaborate (he teaches music and was the bands keyboard maestro like yourself) old muso’s must get into production when they stop playing live eh?).

I’ve tried rendering in most of the DVD PAL formats but still end up with a vid that has the flicker in it.

There is an error message in DVD Arch that says there is more than the 99 frames allowed would that be what is doing this. I am designing slide shows and usually end up with in excess of 100 photos.

The Photos are sized to 1280×720 so Ideally suit the wide screen format but even when burnt in widescreen PAL the flicker is still apparent.

Many of the images I have sharpened in Photoshop would that have anything to do with the flicker? I use the sharpen mask but only when I’m ready to save the photo.

Is there anything I’ve just said that would cause the flickering?

Hi Noah,
Over here if you play a NTSC render on a PAL TV it has no colour it is in black and white. I rendered for PAL in Vegas and burnt to DVD with DVD Architect also in PAL but I am new to this so will go double check and render and burn again.
