    Gary
Thanks for you response and I do appreciate the information re Apple providing the ioHD driver. However you missed my point. I wasn’t talking about them continuing to develop the ioHD, I was talking about the lack of information coming fromAJA. Especially as they flagged the fact, almost two thirds of year ago, that the driver was fairly immanent (the elusive SOON word) then removed the information from their web site close to or during NAB 2012 with nary a word. Communication here is the issue. Are they being forthright? They are, after all, still marketing this ‘long in the tooth’ product on the their website.

It’s still a great io box for many other connections— I just wish that I could use my external SDI-in monitor for colour grading in FCPX as I could in FCStudio.

Apropos ‘welcome to Apple’, I’ve being an Apple user for 22 years so am quite used to their often incomprehensible way of doing things ; )

My apologies, I inadvertently posted this to an earlier discussion twice : ((
Nevertheless I feel it important enough to repost here where it was intended.

With all due respect, the issue here is not just Apple, its the paucity of information coming from AJA regarding the ioHD.

Their rare cryptic statements are a poor show. Gary, they don’t need an apologist in this case, they need to effect better customer support communication, one that honestly serves their customer base. Their products are not cheap and in todays economic climate most of us need to know what is happening with products that we have invested it and what future potential still have before we reinvest. Earlier, it was positively indicated that the ioHD would SOON work with FinalCut Pro X—a beta driver was forthcoming. Suddenly the information disappeared from their website with a deafening silence from their side. Their recent post here was not helpful.

They have a well earned reputation as being better than Blackmagic and Matrox in customer service. Interesting to see how well that holds up in this case. For us to be patient we also need clarity from the company (third party assumptions are not good enough) and an assurance of commitment to this product. Only fair dinkum!

A very long, even deafening silence.
Even the “Version 10.2 X Beta for use with Io HD and Final Cut Pro X (10.0.3) coming soon.” seems to have disappeared from their website.
It would be helpful if the AJA Sales Department updated their Feb 1 post.

And apropos the website by-line—”Because it matters.” Yes, it actually does matter.

I believe that Apple has promised two new features coming in “early 201:”—multicam editing and broadcast-quality video monitoring. So perhaps AJA may be looking at that timeline. Today’s update allows Apple Motion dual displays. Gets interesting!

Walter, thanks again for for sharing your working experience. I was quite in the dark about how to proceed effectively with larger PSD files for animating and zooming – scan size and dpi.

BTW – love your blog. Just re-read your entry about your rewiring project with Bob Zelin. Great read.

September 27, 2007 at 9:16 pm in reply to: Pre-canned effects like LiveType

Yes there is great amount of content in Motion and one can add the Wondertouch Emitters and the Noise Industries (and partners) generators and plugins. However what I was specifically addressing, with regards to my needs, were many of the text effects that are available in LiveType and NOT in Motion.

If one is doing conference openers and such like, filling up a six to eight minute time lines with animated composites changing every eight to 12 seconds, one needs all the help one can get to stay within a budget time wise. As Burt says, Motion offers pre-done objects which are fantastic and aid productivity no end – I just wish that I could pull over some more of LT’s Text effects so that I could continue to work with them as editable text in Motion.

    Hi Wayne
I have also been on the lookout for the same.
Live Type certainly has some fine effects (especially used in combo) not available in Motion’s offering. Presently I bring Live Type compositions into FCP often laying them over Motion exports. It would be a great help if one had all of the live Type effects in Motion – for simple but effective jobs, time is of the essence. Anybody out there with some good ideas?

August 28, 2007 at 8:42 pm in reply to: Knoll Light Factory Editors question

The latest version of Knoll Light Factory Editors v2.5 doesn’t work in Motion 3. I was offered the option of purchasing it while buying Shine (great product) … big disappointment at the time. Hopefully they will get there with the software but they seem to be behind with the Magic Bullet Looks etc so it may take a while. In my view, the Knoll Light Factory Editors are VERY limited and lack flexibility – it would probably be better to go for the pro version. However play with the demo first. [cmcilwain] “I have Knoll Light Factory Editors installed for Final Cut Pro. Is it possible to activate for Motion, as well? “
