Thanks for the info and reassurance. just some follow-up questions based on what you said.

What type of media are you capturing and exchanging with your co-worker in terms of both of you using the same compression rate for capture? I’m working with MiniDV capturing through firewire so I assume setting the compression rate does not applies to me in capturing media on a FCP 5 system to open/edit on another FCP4.5?

What do you mean that it is more a “Need to render” issue?

“I use FCP 5.0. My co-worker across the hall is still on FCP 4.5. We have exchange captured video clips without any problem so far. We both happen to have our systems set to the same compression and capture the clips at that setting, but I’m not sure if that is a compatability issue more than a “need to render” issue. Give it a try.
