  • Thanks, really I know I have to use in design but was hoping someone would tell me I wouldn’t have to so I would have an excuse to not learn a new software but now I’m quite looking forward to it.

  • The shutter speed was changed. You should notice that the exposure increased in the second clip, and the motion jitter and blur is due to a shutter speed that has fallen bellow the frame rate (below 25th/second).

If you shoot some video now as a quick test with a shutter speed that is below the frame rate, e.g one 25th of a second at 30fps, you will see it produces the same effect.

What might have happened is you might have accidentally switched the camera into an automatic mode on the touch screen or the dial without noticing.

If the shutter speed is not equal too or greater than the frame rate, the camera does not have enough exposure’s to produce all (25) frames for one second of video, and this results in the jitter.

I am 100 percent certain this is what is occurring in your video but if you are doubtful I would suggest testing it out yourself. There’s nothing you can do to fix this now unfortunately, however in the future make sure the shutter speed doesn’t change during filming as it has in this video evident in the miss matched frame rate to shutter speed as well as the change in exposure between shots.

Hope this doesn’t happen again! And I’m sure the video is more than adequate for reference purposes anyhow, but I’m sorry that this has happened.

  • Very interesting, I’ve never seen these rigs used for such creative purposes before and assumed they were exclusive for action filming with go pros and such.

    Perfect! I didn’t realise 1440×1080 was 4×3. Thanks a bunch.

If you’re planning on doing a lot of low light then I’d defiantly suggest the C100 or better yet, C300 although it might be a little of your budget (but not by very much at all). The Canon’s perform very well int terms of noise and you can get extremely useable shots at iso 3200. There might be a little moire and aliasing with the canons but it shouldn’t be a problem. If you’ve seen the movie How I Live Now (2013), then you know what the C300 can do (it’s a very capable camera). The BlackMagic will give you exceptional image quality with almost no moire or aliasing (unless you look very hard for it in exceptional situations) but it is DEFIANTLY not a camera for low light (almost unusable if your shooting intensively in low light situations)

Here is a video someone made comparing the C300 to the Ursa in low light, and at iso 800 the ursa was noisy where as the c300 was clean at 4000.

Personally, I’d go with the C300 (if you can stretch to the price), because the low light capabilities are mind blowing and I LOVE the images you can get out of the camera. I suggest you watch the film How I Live Now (on netflix) because it is the biggest testament to what the c300 can do.

    Hope this helped.
