Okay, so if that’s the case, is there a way around having the interlaced image disconnect when an effect is added? It’s very distracting.

Yup, the box was checked.
On my camera I shoot manual exposure, 24M FX, Image size 12M, Aspect Ratio 16:9.

I’ve read that it shoots progressive, but it stores the files in an interlaced container. I read that you’re able to extract the progressive files from the container, but I’m not really sure how one would go about that. I guess I should be posting in a Sony thread, but all the forums regarding that camera are dead. If you’ve ever dealt with a similar issue and resolved it, let me know.

Okay but what do you mean by ProRes. Do I change my sequence settings before I import my clips or what? give me some details

Okay thanks. It’s rendering now. I chose Apple ProRes 422 in sequence settings. There was also the option for Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), does that make a difference?
Another question while we’re on the subject, I use final cut for my own personal footage and my clips are also H.264, and I’ve gotten used to the mediocre quality of my exports. I have a very expensive camera, and when I look at the clips on my camera they’re beautiful, but they lose quality in FCP, is this because of some of my settings? Could you advise me on how to properly import the footage so that the quality stays at its potential? The outcome isn’t horrible, but its still noticeable when faces aren’t as crisp as they should be.

Ok, so you were right, the sequence settings were set to 720×480, but when I switched them (manually) to 1920×1080, this happened (picture below).
Clip settings are 1920×1080, codec H.264, Linear PCM
