I think you’re still building a false dichotomy.
If you look at node-based workflows, for instance, you would come out with a different division between NLEs. This might be of primary importance for some editors.
You might find the timeline difference to be the most important difference. By emphasizing that, you’re ignoring what others might emphasize as a defining feature.

I think Walter was specifically commenting on philosophies behind software design, and I’d be very surprised if he had just two in mind – there seems to be at least a handful of approaches continually discussed here.
When it comes to editors and their workflows, needs, approaches, and theory, there are significantly more than a handful to count. This forum is (or should be) a constant reminder of that.

… tangentially, I’m interested to see how Adobe Anywhere scales down (rather than up), appealing more to smaller groups, and wonder if they’re be developments in that direction over the next few years. Is that the end run around puck-expectant Apple?

Well, … they haven’t delivered yet.
There are probably more recent figures but if you scroll down and look at the chart for Aug 2012, it seems subscriptions are only 20% of current revenue.
I can’t imagine them pushing everyone to subscription until that ratio is lower.
On the other hand the secrecy around the name (“CS Next” for now?) suggests to me perhaps some sort of rejigging of how the suite is packaged (and sold). But that’s just me.

It probably differs from person to person.
For me it’s viable audio mixing (with support for control surfaces thrown in as a bonus) and viable relinking (I hope) which would have been a nightmare otherwise.
With those two “tipping point” features, I’m willing to test it under scale duress and explore workflow on future projects.

I am asking because I had the impression that it is slightly finicky with graphics cards – I have a tower with 10.6.8 and a 5770 that it won’t read RED media on, and it wasn’t running on newish laptops with integrated graphics, and I looked at blackmagis’s configuration recommendations but they seemed to be from last year (not including Apple’s latest models).
So I was just asking. Likely we’ll see more info as 10 rolls out.
I am assuming pretty much any of the current crop of iMacs would work (to varying degrees of “work”).

I’m not sure if your question is sincere or not, but I believe the offer was that cloud members get ongoing access to new features, while those who purchase the software get new features at milestone releases. You could probably find the original marketing if you were interested.
As the new features you’re talking about come a part of a milestone release, I suspect they will be available to all whether purchased or part of creative cloud “rental”. But so far, Adobe hasn’t indicated.
