Thanks for the information! It certainly helps and makes me think I’m more or less on the right track.

Would you mind elaborating a bit on your remark regarding the value scaling?

I looked up rec 709 black and white levels and from what I can tell the 64-940 range corresponds to
the black and white points in rec 709.

Am I correct in assuming that I need to watch my scopes and keep shadows above 64, if they are to retain
detail, while doing the same with the highlights with respect to 940?

hey, i got it to work after all… 🙂

i re-exported the film using QT Pro and voila the “fast start”
setting works! i guess it’s some weirdness of my AE install
that led to the discussed (mis-)behavior. QT settings
in AE 6.5 are strangely implemented anyway. why can i set the
“fast start” flag when i export a movie, but not when i render
it…? i hope they fixed this in the new release…

hi steve, thanks for the reply.

i see what you’re saying. and during this preload
one would see the quicktime logo only and no video player…?
(that’s what’s happening in my case.)
