Dave,
there are several options, depending on what kind of G5 you have. Media 100 sw currently has no I/O options, so you need a “full” Media 100 for digitizing and mastering (if you are not going to DVD).
If you have a G5 with PCI-X slots (the G5s without the DualCore CPUs) then Media 100 HD would be an option. It is a great SD editor as well as build for HD work. If you have a DualCore G5 with PCI Express slots you could get one of the new Aja-based Media 100 systems. The SDe is the “base” version with all the Media 100 HD features without HD support, but it is quite cheap and much more powerful than the “old” Media 100 i systems. If you -

There is no test material included; I guess because the full software gets distributed through the web most of the time and it would take too much space to include the bars there. And many decks can create proper bars these days, so the demand is not so high these days. On the other hand it would be nice to have a separate download for bars that match the Media 100 HD system.

You will see some big UI/workflow speed ups with such a dual-CPU system. But one thing you should consider is that a new DualCore G5 plus a Media 100 SDe will give you the newest technology (multilayering in the timeline in realtime and extremely fast rendering times inside Media 100) for maybe not that much more money.

We did test the Tempo X SATA 4+4 some time ago in a dual 1GHz and had no problems with Media100. This was a short test only, just to see if the system did work with the board. The newer X4P will work inside a G4, since the PCI-X cards are backwards compatible, but I cannot tell if it will work with Media 100, althought I would guess it should without problems.
