March 22, 2017 at 9:27 am in reply to: New MacBook Pro, Fs7 4k and bad playback performanceAs I mentioned in my previous reply I am experiencing the same issues but I don’t think it has to do with the FS7 files. For my last project I had to make proxies (prores 720P). Even when working with the proxies things are not working 100%. I mean it’s fine but there is still some choppyness in playback and scrolling and things like the audiometer is lagging.
I doubt there is a hardware issue with the computer since other apps such as Final Cut are working very well and is super smooth.

December 14, 2016 at 9:40 am in reply to: Choppy playback and performance issues new Macbook Pro 15″ 2016Btw, I know this has been discussed before. But for the camera I’m using Sony FS7 would you transcode to ProRes 422, 422 HQ or 444? How much will it matter?
Thank you!

I tried everything in your guide (at least the settings available on OS X) but I still have the same problem. The problems are not specific to clips in the timeline. Just playing clips in the source-player (not sure what it’s called) isn’t working well enough. It’s not terrible but it always gets choppy after a few seconds. Impossible to work like this.
I guess I will have to transcode to Prores for this project and hope software updates will make things better in the future :/

December 13, 2016 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Choppy playback and performance issues new Macbook Pro 15″ 2016Yeah but it is strange that editing in XAVC-I worked well on my old iMac and barely at all on my new macbook. Except for that my new computer is faster on everything else.
Guess I might have to work in Prores in the meantime and hopefully I will find a solution to this problem soon :/

Looked through that post but there’s was nothing there to help me. Transcoding to Prores is not something I want to do (and it shouldn’t be necessary). I tried rewrapping one of the files but that made it unreadable to Premiere.

Thanks for all your help!
No more mp3s at 44.1 khz!

Converting the WAV file to 32-bit did not work unfortunately 🙁
So the problem is using mp3 files with Final Cut, correct?

Thanks for the help! I’ll see if I can figure it out. Will try to convert to WAV to 32 bit floating if that’s possible, then it should fit right in. In the worst case scenario I have to change my vide edit so that it matches my wav file which will take a lot of time and some re-rendering.
I’ll let you know what happens!

I see now that the old file is 44.1 khz and 32 bit floating point MP3
the new one is 44.1khz and 16 bit WAVI can’t see how the mp3 can be 32 bit. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I tried exporting the original mp3 as 16 bit from Final Cut but that puts it out of sync with the old file.
