Hi John! Hope all has been well these past 3 years.

I never did resolve this problem – I ended up giving up on the project way back then. However, I recently got a new laptop that’s more powerful than my old computer, and had the desire to render the project so it could go on my creative portfolio (I still have all the files saved and such).

I opened the project and tried to render it, but had the same problem as before – it debugs/crashes around 10% in while I’m trying to render mp4, 1080p. I tried turning off GPU acceleration of video processing in an attempt to make it work, but still no luck.

Below are a bunch of other details that may be able to help you tell me what the problem is/how to fix it. I’m certainly open to solutions involving rendering in other formats/ in chunks as you prescribed before, but wanted to see if you could offer a fresh perspective considering I’m on a new machine and perhaps the range of possible solutions have grown.

    Hello John,

So I’ve tried rendering the 10-minute segment in HD 720p mp4 again, this time without cancelling it just to see if it would at least finish the rendering.

After 1 hour 40 min it crashed at 48%. It seems I’m running out of options; the render time seems to be a less of an issue than Vegas Pro 12 itself crashing all the time.

Do you think upgrading to Vegas Pro 13 might resolve any of these issues? Are there any other options for me, any particular settings I can toy around with in the program that will make a difference in this case?

A new computer with better specs, as great as it would be, isn’t really an option for me right now.

Please do let me know what my final options are.
If there’s nothing else that can be done, I suppose I’ll have to consider rendering in lower quality (although I really don’t want to).

    Best Always,
    Faraz

I see, I wasn’t aware these issues existed with my specs.
Unfortunately I don’t think a new computer is in the cards for me any time soon.

I’m in the process of rendering one of my five segments in MP4 format, its 12 minutes in and 11% complete, while ETA is calculated 1 hour 36 minutes, so that’s definitely a vast improvement over the MXF rendering.

Do you have any guesses what might be causing that problem with MFX files?

    Best Always,
    Faraz

I was originally rendering to HD 720p MP4, I’m about to try that for the 10 minute increments. I’ll let you know what happens with that as soon as possible (should be within the next couple of hours).

In the meantime, here are my computer specs:

    Operating System: Windows 8 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200)
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3337U CPU @ 1.80GHz (4 CPUs), ~1.8GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable)
Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
    Memory: 8192MB RAM

    John,

So the issue here is I tried to render one of five 10-minute segments in MXP,
and it said it would take 5 hours for completion. I left it for 30 minutes and came back to it only being on 11%, so I just cancelled the operation.

It just seemed a little unreasonable to me.. I don’t think it makes sense for a 10-minute video to take 5 hours to render.. could you offer any tips on reducing time, or maybe another solution altogether?

I’m perfectly alright doing a long, 10-hour single render session, rather than five 5-hour MXP render sessions, followed by another who-knows-how-long render session to put all those MXP segments together.

I suppose I should mention I’m trying to retain high quality for this video, so I’ve been trying to render the MXP segments in HD422 1920×1080-60i 50 Mbps, as I want the final product to be HD 720p.

If you have any alternate suggestions on rendering in other MXP outputs that might reduce rendering time while maintaining the high quality I want in the finished product, I could definitely give those a try (or if you have any other alternate approaches in general).

Thanks for bearing with me, I do appreciate your help.

    Best Always,
    Faraz

    Hello John,
I updated to Vegas Pro 12 Build 770, and unfortunately its the same issue.

The rendering crashed at 12%, a problem report popped up saying “Vegas Pro has stopped working”.
In fact, it took longer to reach 12% this time.

Rather than the usual one hour the previous 4 times, it took an hour and 40 minutes this time around.
What is the next possible solution I should seek? Also, on a side (and less important) note, is there any way to speed up the rendering process? It just keeps adding on hours and hours, and I’m wondering if there’s not quicker way for this video to be processed.

    Best Always,
    Faraz

Thank you very much for the prompt reply, Mr. Rofrano.
I will try upgrading to Vegas 12 and see if there are any issues thereafter.

    Best Always,
    Faraz
