Figured it out. Flashed my drive, etc., and that did the trick.

Yep, that’s what I did. The VOBs that come from the process still do not open on the time line in their full time. I think Alex is on to something about markers put on there by a Panasonic DVD recorder…or some other brand.
Normal DVD disks work perfectly, so I was just wondering why this funky DVD with the Video_RM and Video_TS was not working the same.

I am back and trying these methods too.
I go to file, import DVD Camcorder disc, and get to the disc, browse, and can see the two files, but it won’t let me open either one for import. On the other hand, I can import at the disc level, but it has not solved my problem of trying to get the VOBs to go on the timeline in their correct length. It may be that Panasonic recorder that is the problem.
I tried a normal DVD disc and imported it and the results were the same.
Thanks Alex, I will try that Videoredo to see what happens.

Thanks for your suggestions. I got excited and thought the camcorder DVD import was going to do it, but it still won’t go beyond about 51 seconds. I’m pretty sure this DVD was made on a stand-alone DVD player/recorder. It has the following files on it which looks unusual to me as I have only seen the files made by DVDA.
VIDEO_RM
VIDEO_TS
The VIDEO_TS file has only one VOB file on it when it is “explored,” but when I use DVD Decrypter to get the VOB files, it has 4 VOBs of about 1 GB each. But each maxes out at about 51 seconds on the Vegas timeline, except for #3 which does go about 28 minutes, but it is the only one. Seems strange if there really is 1 GB in each one.
I’ve tried running it through DVD Shrink just to get rid of any protection in case that was it. I tried those VOBs in Vegas and it did the same thing.
The DVDs I’ve made with Vegas and DVDA, I can put those VOBs onto the timeline, and it works great. Is it because this weird DVD was made by a stand-alone DVD player/recorder?

Hi Peter,
Paul Kelly did an artsy-type film, “One Night The Moon,” which is unavailable over here and only in PAL, so a friend sent me a tape and I am converting it to an NTSC DVD….for personal use of course! It’s a very strange haunting story……..good little film.
I saw the same Bob Tour with PK in Melbourne when I was visiting. I enjoyed both.
Cheers from Boston,

Thanks Peter,
I have been reading the Dolby Professional Guide ever since and playing with the custom feature with various outcomes. It looks like Vegas default sets Line Mode profile as Film:Standard, and by setting it to “None” my DVD becomes raw as intended with no recompression. And if I tweak the “Dialog Normalization,” towards -27 from -31, that I lower the levels to match my intended audiences TV set or DVD player. And by heading towards -20 that I would lower the level even more if the program is rock music or a loud program.
Is my understanding heading in the right direction?
Thanks again,

PS. I have been to Perth from Boston and abslutely loved it! Beautiful area. My current project actually involves OZ great, Paul Kelly.

Yowza!
Wow, that’s allot of background….and I asked for it! I did find the sections and understand a bit more which is good. Lots of homework to do….
Thanks Mike,

Thanks Gary!
That worked beautifully. Any background on what those adjustments do to make that work? I’m always trying to understand the background…..or if it’s easier to point me to my own reference that would be a bonus.
Thanks again for your help!
