Thanks so much for persevering with this. So I don’t open up the motion effect editor? I just apply the effect to the clip, then look for the button with running man. could you send a screen grab of that button?

Yep. So I apply timewarp, park playhead on clip, open motion effect editor and get the speed graphs, but no promote button.

Hi Shane, thanks for your post. I’m a little confused. James’s post said to open the motion effect editor, and my response also made reference to the motion effect editor. Neither of us mentioned the effect editor. there isn’t anything which says “promote” in the motion effect editor, and all the buttons are greyed out. I’m using media composer v.8.

Thanks for this, that’s a relief! And good point about the linked AMA clips slowing down performance- I wouldn’t have thought of it, but now you mention it that seems obvious!

Hey Michael,

thanks for your response. I have been renaming the Avid Media Files as per the transcoded batch for each shoot day- good to know that this will come in handy at this point.

So in your opinion, the fact that the duplicated version which the editor is cutting from, ie the version which does not have the original media on the hard drive, only the Avid Media Files, shouldn’t be a problem?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for clarifying. Perhaps transcoding in Da Vinci Resolve lite would therefore be the only option, unless the drive was far bigger. I’m not editing the feature myself. The editor hasn’t yet been appointed but the post supervisor would like me to start transcoding as soon as possible, and syncing the rushes. As a result, I don’t know whether the editor would be happy to edit using AMA files, although I’ve heard this is a bad idea- I don’t know why…

Hey Michael,

Thanks, that’s really helpful.

I’ve never used Da Vinci Lite before, and as there is a time pressure on this I don’t want to start learning now.

Instead, I’ll AMA link to the footage and transcode within Avid. It’s a shame that I can’t set up the project for the edit on a different drive, as you suggest, but I’ve actually managed to clear an extra 500GB space, leaving me 1TB for the edit, and by your calculation method, it seems that a DNxHD36 project should take up 27GB of space.
