Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I can’t afford to hire an assistant. So Im thinking on sending the files to my friend in the US so he can translate and transcribe them (about 6 hours of material). Ive seen seen software called Inscribe which says it can also export the transcripts for subtitling use. Any info on that?

Thanks for the extensive replies! What would you recommend? optimized or proxy?

What settings should i use in FCP? Also if i export the proxy timeline, what should I do to get the original file structure?

Also because my entire footage is about 2tb I can’t import on my computers disk. Will it work if I import my files to an external disk. This one has a usb 3.0 connection

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes the ATT is done on the xlr unit on the camera. The receiver or transmitter on this system doesn’t have a lot of manual settings. Only you can change from 0db to 10 and 20db. The level indicator on the receiver is a very basic one (just three bars indicating volume)

I’m getting better audio quality when turning on the ATT actually.

Can you tell me what ideal peak levels should be? for my shotgun or the wireless system? When I look on to my my level meter on the cam whats the ideal range?

Thanks for the advice guys! I havent bought the camera yet, but I will rent one this weekend and check what the mic does. Good tip!

If i go without a boom (which is my only option because of the China situation) my only option to get some good audio from my main character will be a decent wireless lav set? I can spend between 200-450 dollars I guess. Whats the best bang for my buck in this price range?

If the mounted mic checks out bad, Maybe its better to buy a camera without the xlr inputs? or will the quality of the sound of the wireless lav be a lot worse with only a minijack input into the camera?

Thanks for your reply! So the 2.4 ghz are not very useful in a crowded wifi overloaded Beijing?

The other sounds I want to capture with the shotgun mic is maybe when my main character runs into somebody in the street and starts a conversation.

So mounted shotguns are that bad?

Also what would be my best setup? Still work alone and a boom pole is out of the question…
