  • My experience with Premier Pro CS6 is anything but stable / reliable sadly. Very odd bugs at home (2012 iMac, nVidia GPU, BlackMagic I/O) and at the studio (2008 MacPro, AMD GPU, AJA I/O).

Perhaps not any help but you’re defiantly not alone in having issues with PrPro.

PS, IL, AE and AME I however haven’t had any issues with on any system. Version x.0 tends to have a bug or two you need to dodge but that’s it. Premier seems to be Adobes black sheep – at least on OSX.

  • There are situations where smart rendering doesn’t solve the same problem. We’ve done a few web projects with 500+ edits of 4 minute music videos.

    – Reference movies will take at the most a few 100 MB’s
    – Smart render to disk will even with a lower bandwidth ProRes format take 200-300 GB’s.

Also, with reference media I might have X sources needing updates. I my case I might have the same logo at the end of these 500 edits.

    – In the reference scenario I update one media asset and all 500 edits will be updated automatically at the same time.
    – In the smart render to disk scenario I still have to write and / or render 2000 minutes and a few 100 GB’s of data to disk.

I’d imagine referenced media can be used in more scenarios as well. Yes, it’s true the above requires us as creators to be careful HOW we create our assets and edits. I wouldn’t go mixing H264, R3D and ProRes in the same edit. I probably wouldn’t even mix two native QT-codecs and esp. not mix different frame sizes or frame rate.

  • This is one of the key features we’re loosing with FCP7. Technically I guess a QT REF file is similar to an XML-file, just that QT Player can actually play these files on the fly.

We’ve use these a lot through the years. This and proper batch- and background exporting is lacking in PrPro CS6.

    This was with software playback.

I tried repairing permissions, creating a new project, deleting render files with no luck. Then I turned on full screen playback on my secondary monitor and wha-la – it works again. Very odd!

Well I’m running OSX 10.8.3 on an iMac 27″ 2012 w nVidia 680MX so I don’t think I can affect the display driver a whole lot.

I’ll give these suggestions a try when I get back home. Very odd issue.

Things are better with QuickTime in OSX. One issue with VLC is that it isn’t color managed so especially on wide gamut screens colors will look very funky there.

I’ve got a few pretty straight forward questions:

    1. Creative Cloud allows you to use two installations on two different computers per license concurrently. A question here though is with a Creative Cloud for Teams license if you are allowed the above but for two different individuals on two different computers with-in the team?

    2. The pricing seems quite off in Sweden. In th US the price for a team licens is $840 per year, in Sweden roughly $1200 per year. Why the insane premium over here? Doesn’t make any sense to me.

    3. Is it possible to download a .dmg of each install? This would be great for people with random acess to Internet or slow connectivity.
