  • PrPro CS6 – play doesn’t work?

Had an odd issue with PrPro CS6 this morning at my home studio. The app wouldn’t playback anything in either the source or canvas. Anyone know of this issue?

Tried pushing space, j / k / l, manually clicking with the mouse, turning mercury engine on and off. Nothing happens during attempt to playback but app doesn’t crash or anything. I can through VLC and QTX play media files from the same volume.

MacOSX 10.8.3, iMac 2012 pretty maxed out.

Have never seen this. Have you repaired disc permissions anytime recently? We try to do that at least every 2-3 weeks to keep the machines running smoothly.

    Might want to start there.

I have seen this happen only once and it was a result of a bad PrPro install. If rebooting and then repairing your permissions does not help, you can try to troubleshoot by opening another project to see if the problem persists.

If it does then you can troubleshoot further to see if it works in the Root user or you could just uninstall the app and then re-install following the directions very carefully. More than likely though it is a conflict with an output or other connected device, card, monitor drive ect. and Walters first recommendation will fix it.

I’ll give these suggestions a try when I get back home. Very odd issue.

Another thing you may want to check is display card drivers. It’s amazing how much they can affect fundamental playback functionality when they’ve gone wonky or something has been installed that has created a conflict.

Well I’m running OSX 10.8.3 on an iMac 27″ 2012 w nVidia 680MX so I don’t think I can affect the display driver a whole lot.

I tried repairing permissions, creating a new project, deleting render files with no luck. Then I turned on full screen playback on my secondary monitor and wha-la – it works again. Very odd!

That card isn’t actually supported by the mercury engine, right? So you had to hack the file to get cuda or open CL?

I had the same problem with opencl on my mid-2011 iMac. Things would just stop working. No playback. Weird. So I quit using the hack.

But I’m on the same machine as you now, and I have the hack to get cuda, and all seems fine.

    This was with software playback.
