It should be like any other wide gamut screen out there. sRGB content should look like sRGB and P3-content should look like P3. I do hope Apple has the option to force OS-wide sRGB in the hardware as some apps don’t use color profiles – including VLC. If there isn’t an option for that these screens could be a huge problem.

I’ve seen this happen as well. What I did was import into Resolve and export a new XML.

But the in’s and out’s of Adobe-land can be shaky.

Not to be harsh but the AVID GUI looked like complete garbage last time I checked. They don’t even have anti-aliased fonts for crying out loud. I don’t know if garbage looking GUI = professional (even if it often has in the past).

    From Sonnets homepage:

    RED ROCKET:
    – 24 fps @ 5K, full-frame, 8-bit
    – 11 fps @ 5K, full-frame, 16-bit

    RED ROCKET X:
    – 32 fps @ 5K, full-frame, 8-bit (note: should be sufficient for playback of dailies in the field)
    – 16 fps @ 5K, full-frame, 16-bit
    – 22 fps @ 6K, full-frame, 8-bit
    – 12 fps @ 6K, full-frame, 16-bit
    – 64.5 fps @ 6K, full-frame, 8-bit, exporting to 1080
    – 58.5 fps @ 6K, full-frame, 8-bit, exporting to 1080 (note: should be able to do 3D 1080 in real time)

    So… 6K to 4K @ 16-bit output I guess should be in the realm of realtime (24 / 25 fps).

If going the MacPro-route I’d recommend looking at a different display setup than Apple Thunderbolt Display. EIZO has some very solid screens for example.

Also, depending on what you work with, having a 512 GB internal SSD can be a huge boost in performance.

That said, if you’re really on a budget the non-retina iMac is a very solid price / performer if you’re on a tight budget.

Very true! Disregarded the issue of monitoring. Still a crazy workflow they’ve invented I’d say!

Impressive I guess but it does sound like a odd workflow.

    – Offline in 1080p60 would make more sense (200% scale = final master raster)
    – Online in UHDp60
    – Avoid DPX for a network show, I’d opt for Cineform or ProRes of higher versions. If they require high bitrates, perhaps ProRes 4444 XQ from Resolve to FCPX.

The only benifit of DPX is it’s image-sequence based so re-doing frames here and there is efficient. However, managing that amount of data is def. not. UHDp24 DPX is like 800 MB/s. This show was “suffering” 2000 MB/s excluding audio. Madness.

The pris is a bit unsettling. It’s more expensive than an iPad for crying out loud. People complain that the iphone is a “premium product for a premium crowd”, well a huge difference there is a think very few buy a 500-700 dollar phone, they buy it with a two year contract which makes any higher end device cost virtually the same and you can motivate that purchase easily.

The Watch… A very hard sell for me. It requires you to charge it every day, the functionally you get compared to your phone for 2X the cost is very slim. I could see the “fancy features” like Apple Pay with the watch being nice but that’s convenience a handful times a day tops. And it shows me the time, if I remember to charge the thing every day.

At say $99, $149 or $199 it’s a steal. At $349 I for one really think about if it’s something I need. I don’t know if I do. Not now at least. If it where to interface with my everyday life more, maybe, but at the moment it’s just an iPhone extension really. For a very high cost.

Our old MacPro had a Kona-3, same issues there. I’ve also tried a AJA T-TAP on two seperate laptops with the same issue… But I’d love to get to the bottom of this!
