It almost sounds like that would be easier to keyframe. But with the script you’d use an If/else, with the condition either being a point in time or a certain degree of the camera. And to get the gradual start and stop, multiply the result by Math.exp.

But actually the way i would go about it ( if you have particular ) is just make your balloon a single custom particle and you can control the gravity/wind physics/direction and turbulant field more realistically.

Thats very much doable in AE, granted i would probably use a 3rd party tracker like boujou for the tracking since AE’s not only a 2d tracker but just not as powerful. But to answer the question most definitely. And a few ways of going about it.

Not sure what kind of movement your looking for but it sounds like you could use a simple wiggle on the X and Z, and maybe a little in orientation, while moving it up in the Y to achieve that natural floating look. example of a wiggle would be,

    wiggle(1,10)

1 = how many times a second it wiggles
10=the amount of the wiggle in pixels or degrees depending on your property.

What your looking for is Inverse Kinematics, heres a good link on how to do that. Along with alot of great scripting examples and info.
