    That is correct.

You might want to consider dumping the camera files onto a harddrive and THEN doing a log & transfer into FCP from this files (as opposed to connecting the camera to the computer and going directly into FCP).

Ahhhh, ok. I thought you meant the first half of the clip.

Hmmm, I’m at a loss other than the unfortunate possibility that those clips got corrupted or something. But again, you did say that you can upload them in Premier so I’m not sure.

Would anybody recommend that he try doing a repair media in the camera?

  • I would contend that anything above -3 will have grain in blacks, mid and highs. And honestly, I keep it at -6 as much as possibly possible.

Also, an iris above about 4 will start to give grain as well. Keep those things in mind and test again.

    Post back your results.

I have found that shooting in -6db (even if a little too dark) and increasing the mids and highs in post looks better than shooting in -3 or 0.

How long is the clip? I’m not sure the exact limit but sometimes that will happen to me if the clip is over an hour. But you say it DOES L&T the first half? It does not give you an error message? That sounds to meier like you’ve perhaps accidentally set an out point.

Best advice I can give is to get a dimmable light. It IS worth the extra expense. I’m not a huge fan of the LED on-camera lights although they do have advantages such as lighter weight, cheaper batteries, not heavy battery belts. But the throw distance isn’t enough for me, maybe it is enough for your purposes?

This new baby has me very tempted: search “Lightpanel Croma”. It’s dimmable and you can actually adjust the color temperature!

    Good luck. Eric

I use the nx5u and FCP7. I have not experienced that long of transfer times and I regularly shoot 50+ minute clips.

Are you log & transferring dirrectly from the flash memory unit or are you transferring ALL the files from the FMU onto a harddrive, and then from there (the harddrive) L&Ting into FCP? I suggest the latter.

Also, make sure you’re converting to ProRes 422 and not ProRes 422 HQ.

I hope this helps, but if not then post back more specific info.

    Lynne,

From my experience and from what I’ve read here on this forum, 0db is not really 0 on these cameras. 0db WILL produce some grain, even in bright daylight. With that said, a smaller iris such as over approx 5 will also cause some grain to be introduced into the image. Try going into the menu and setting the gain switch to be -3 and -6 db. As much as possible shoot in -6db and a fully open iris.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks John, makes sense. I was just think that since the 1/48 is directly proportionate to the 24 frame rate that maybe 1/60 would produce jittering or something like that.

    Thanks very much!

…forgot to mention that I did leave the cameras turned in too, and I think that helped.
