Nero is a burning tool period! If it doesn’t burn what does it do …LOL!!
But I agree with Roman…there’s no better burning app than imgburn!

Check out DVD Lab Pro if you want a good authoring tool….for $250 you can’t be it. Nothing comes close on the PC side as far as features and customization.

Another reason to throw Encore in the trash…sorry had to say it 🙂

Not to sound like a know it all or elitist…. 🙂
I will always give credit where credit is due…but…there’s not a person in the world who knows the real ins an outs of DVD and its production practices that would say Encore is a good authoring tool.
It lacks many features such as scripting and the ability to output DDP files….thats just for starters
It integration with other Adobe apps is nothing but a gimmick really once you learn how a DVD is structured. Just my opinion though…if you and your clients like Encore stay with it.
As far as BD goes, Encore fails again. It’s encoder is horrible, its buggy, its pop menu system only allows one page…very odd 🙂 If your serious about BD then its better to move on to a tool like Do Studio. BD isn’t DVD (not even close) so don’t treat it as such. Do your homework on the technology before offering this service or you will get bit!!

Not sure what you mean by over the top? I wouldn’t compare DVD Lab and Scenarist too much….but DVD Lab can do stuff that most “prosumer” tools cannot – scripting! Scenarist is a spec tool and DVD Lab is not.
FCP Studio is fine but it all depends on the kind of authoring you plan to do. Scenarist will takes months to master but it allows the author access to the entire spec which can be an asset under certain situations.

Unfortunately, there’s no pop-up menu capabilities in the new Sonic system. No AVC encoding either. The encoder is very bare bones. Typical for Sonic Solutions…they then charge you up the “you know what” for the options that make sense the most. Plus have you ever had to deal with Sonic support? Ugghh!!!
Sonic makes great high end tool and thats about it!

Yes…small company but robust tool! Some of the best tools ever were created by one or 2 people. 🙂 There’s not a simulation tool in any DVD program which will replicate true playback from a disc…they are only guides to help. It doesn’t have one true, but it makes up for it on performance vs. price. The only thing that would be compare would be Scenarist (which is a spec tool)
Personally I think you should go with FCP Studio and be done with it! You don’t use FCP in your current work flows??!! Eeek!!! 🙂 Getting harder and harder to find video companies who don’t use FCP and/or Avid these days.
