DVD only supports MPEG 2 or 1. To make a DVD you bring these MPEG files into an authoring program and it creates VOB files.

You made an HD DVD by mistake. Delete all project folders you have for that one and start a new SD project. Look in the preferences on changing that.

Dont set anything in Encore. Bring it into Gear and set it there. Read that link. PGC Edit might help finding that layer break as well.

Oh and make sure the replicator know you’re delivery DDP images….my oh my!!!!

Those cell boundry’s in Encore anyways are chapter points. Make sure you set it on one of those. They need to be set to non-seamless as well. Another option might be to get a free dvd editor like PGC Edit and look for those valid chapter points and get the sector you need.

If your delivering DDP images you should be delivering on DLT, USB drive or (2) single layer discs. Its just data folders. Dont send a DL disc. Just a thought…Ive always used AfterEdit.

DVDit is just a prosumer application with very little in the way of functionality. You could take a look at Netblender’s Do Studio. It runs about 3K. Its perfect for indy producer such as yourself. Another option would be to use Encore (carefully) then spit out a CMF image with Rivergate’s Blu Streak. But Encore won’t do what you want. There is not cheap alternative to Blu Ray I’m afraid.
Really though, unless you plan on doing alot of BD authoring now or in the near future, its best to leave it to folks who have gone through the pains. Send the work out to folks who have the correct tools and workflows ready to go.

Your export should be ProRes 720×480 Anamorphic — same frame rate.
When you encode in Compressor, do you match the field order with the source? That tutorial is a little confusing but I do this everyday without any issues so something went wrong somewhere.

I hear that. I recently made a comment about the Niel Young Archive Blu Ray disc that was brought down. I was in a pissing mood and more or less made a comment about the economics of producing something so large and so long to bring to market. I guess it wasnt taken well and was removed. For the record, being a Blu Ray producer and author myself, the Niel Young BD set is one of the greatest achievements Im ever seen

I dont think there is but it would help. I can tell you that in the DVD authoring forums, we have the same questions asked every week. The number one rule should be search for your issue first before posting.
Another thing I see is people asking very basic or broad questions that are easily found in the manual or online. Questions like: “How do a make a menu for DVD?” or “Im trying to get this Quicktime into DVDSP and it doesn’t work…any ideas?”.
