There is no PAL Or NTSC in Blu Ray…only framerates and resolution. But the good news is it doesn’t matter since what you have will play fine in Europe anyway. Its only set tops and sets here in N. America that dont always play those European framerates. BTW…same with DVD. All PAL players play NTSC discs.

Open the disc. list whats on it? If it doesnt have a VIDEO_TS folder, its a not a DVD.

Flash isnt DVD….so the best guess would be that’s the reason it wont play on a set top 🙂

Get rid of the PAR folder and yes, those files are burned onto disc.

What the original field order on your source? Did you match it in the encoding process?

Hard to say since I know nothing about the film your working on. It it were me and my graphics guy on THIS , I’d say $6-10K since it looks like there’s camera production work.
But you need to look at how many units you plan to sell and compare that to the kind of disc you want. This is the Pavement in London….they do high end work with clients who have big budgets….but also sell millions of units. 🙂

But what about all the titles authored in DVDSP that have won awards for quality….there are several. Again, your equity the quality of the stream with DVDSP. They have nothing to do with each other. DVDSP only muxes an encoded stream. DVDSP is an excellent authoring tool but you somehow expect it to output great looking MPEG 2 stream – This it will not do because it is not an encoder. Please drop this mindset and step it up a little.
In a nutshell…you started a thread ripping a tool you know little about. You clearly dont understand MPEG 2 compression theory or what it takes to encode a quality MPEG 2 stream so why would any of us take your word on what you think is good vs. poor quality?

There is no learning curve in Toast. Its has easy as it gets. Do a google for tons of tutorials

DVDSP is just a DVD authoring tool. It conforms to a specification which has been in place for years and was conceived nearly 20 years ago. There are no updates needed. It is what it is. As authors we use the technology given to use the best way possible. In other words, there are no “upgrades” in DVD. Make sense?
Neil…your not a DVD author…its just that simple. I’m not a cinematographer or an editor so dont feel bad. The reason why your discs look like crap is because you dont fully understand the underlying technology of DVD or the correct workflows needed.
DVDSP is not a design tool. It has these feature caters to the average joe who maybe wants to make neat little menu for their kid’s birthday party. The only changes I would like to see DVDSP make is to remove all the menu design features.
Your equating the quality of your streams with DVDSP. They have nothing to do with each other. Why would you drop a QT into DVDSP and let it do the encoding? Cmon guys, you’re professionals!! Use professional encoding tools and workflows and please dont blame DVDSP or Apple…jeesh!
I just think its funny how thousands of other people in the world have made beautiful, much better looking discs than YOU, using DVDSP – yet YOU blame the tool….HILARIOUS!!! 🙂
