Pal Bluray?
HI folks,
I’ve made NTSC Blurays with Encore with no problem but now someone has requested a “Pal” Bluray. There are settings in Encore to make a “Pal” bluray, but my footage source is video that is 720p 60 or really 59.94. I
‘ve done some tests with Qucktime Pro where I made settings converting NTSC 16:9 to PAL and it destroys the aspect ratio.
For modern HD Program content doesn’t the BD player do the conversion on the fly? Or will there be flicker? Does the program play back at a different rate (50 vs. 60)in a English BD player?
Sorry for the confusion but I’m half tempted to just give the English client the same Bluray I would make for a domestic client.

There is no PAL Or NTSC in Blu Ray…only framerates and resolution. But the good news is it doesn’t matter since what you have will play fine in Europe anyway. Its only set tops and sets here in N. America that dont always play those European framerates. BTW…same with DVD. All PAL players play NTSC discs.

the main problem is, that 25/50fps are only mandatory for coutries that produce/broadcast in 25/50fps by BD-spec.if you try watching BDs with 25/50fps in the rest of the world it wouldn´t work or you might be lucky to see something – but in most cases I wont be played by the BD-player and you´ll get an error-message.

Eric’s answer isn’t really a very “safe” answer. Even if all PAL players could play NTSC, it doesn’t really address the initial question.
For instance… we need to send a PAL BluRay to Finland for a festival there. They have specifically requested PAL (25fps). If we sent them NTSC (23.976), they would have issues playing and projecting the media.
Adobe Media Creator has pre-sets for all kinds of PAL output. I would start with using h.264 BluRay with a PAL selection from the drop-down to render your file, then create a PAL BluRay in Encore.

Which version of Adobe Media Creator are you using? 5.5 or 5?
