Thanks everyone for all the advice.
The work I’m talking about is HD DVD authoring/design. Very few people in the world know how to do this kind of coding (probably under 200 total worldwide) so I’m rather proud of the fact I’m hooked up with this guy. My expertise is SD DVD authoring which he knows nothing about and has given me alot of work lately…so it’s a good fit.
I know he’s very protective of his scripts. It’s not something he’s going to hand over to me just because I hire him for a job. Beside I wouldn’t know what to do with them anyway until I’m up to speed myself. Also, like I said before, it would be almost impossible to find another person who freelances to do the coding. I guess I just have to be careful not over over extend myself and make sure he can do the work before a clients hops on board. 🙂 However once a job is done in DVD, its done..unless the clients wants to pay for a new replication run.

Those are just authoring tool. To do the kind of editing you need you’ll have to extract the assets from the disc itself.

I’m guessing Sandra doesn’t have access to a Scenarist 🙂 You can use a tool like MPEG Stream Clip which allows you to extract the assets from the VIDEO_TS folder and re-author the project from scratch.
For the seminar you’ll have to transcode to an editable file, make your changes, then re-encode back to MPEG 2 for the disc. There are MPEG 2 editors but I’ve seen some problems with them in the past so I never use them. You will take a quality hit but it may not be as bad as you may think.

No PCM is not 5.1. Are you sure your vendor authored your disc with 5.1? Have you confirmed this?

I doubt DVDSP is able to use 5.1 AC3 on a HD DVD disc at this time. Try PCM and let us know how it works. Regardless of what Apple says, DVDSP is NOT a functional HD DVD authoring tool yet.

Thats a good question. Nothing on the Mac I know of. Our version of Cinevision will do segment encodes from a digital file. Also check out Pixel Tools:

Forgot to add….you could couple DVDSP and AfterEdit. This will allow you you to wipe out the abstraction layer DVDSP codes. Your discs won’t be anymore spec complaint but will speed up functionality. However, you’ll need to know know spec level coding for DVD – more that can be learned in a VS class.

Yeah…not sure where,when or how you had problems with DVDSP but it puts out a pretty spec complaint build (or at least it does now).
Scenarist is the only other option you have – hope you have deep pockets! 🙂
