What was your bitrate? Did you use AC3 audio – which is a much lower birate than PCM. Did you burn to quality media?
Use Compressor to do your encoding. Don’t just drop it into DVDSP and let it rip. I’d say an average bitrate around 7mb/s using Dolby 2.0 audio would be good for the length of material you have.

Also, Can you hold off your internship after all your classes are complete? Not sure your situation but it might be wise to do an internship when your ready to move out here and not go back.
So finish up your classes, save enough money for 3-4 months rent, then move out to find a job and internship. When you finish with the internship, you get your diploma and your already out here. 🙂 Talk to your advisor.

The Letterbox plan is a good idea. Its fine to mix different aspect ratio but not if your going to need the next/previous functionality.

The next and previous button were designed to skip chapters in a track not to skip tracks. To travel from one track to another the disc’s laser must go to whats called the “VMG domain”. No author can target different tracks directly no matter what tool your using. This one of those DVD laws which have frustrated authors for years.
I can understand the next function working because the next button see the end jump then the disc does its thing but to previous out of 1 Track to another is a different story.

It depends on your source material. 2 pass doesn’t mean best quality it just means its a variable bitrate. Do a test on both and pick which one you like best.

Your workflow in fine. You can actually export straight to Compressor out of your timeline. I usually use a 1 Pass CBR bitrate of 6.8 – but thats just me. Once you have your MPEG2 file, import that into DVDSP and place it in your menu.
For your button you’ll need to design an 8bit overlay and place this in your menu as well as an “overlay”. This overlay can be adjusted to reveal your different button states.

Well…thats what these discussion groups are for…helping folks get around problems. What is your issue? I’m sure we can get it sorted out. Besides that’s how me and others on this forum learn.
So, to be fair, I think it would be appropriate to hear what the issue is first 🙂

I’d like to here some details of your workflow 🙂 So your using Toast to write data to BD-RE and it plays back on the PS3?
Not so sure about BD but HD DVD has problems with higher bitrates as well but I’ve only tested on red laser media. I figured it might be similar situation.
Encore is the only MAC BD authoring tool in the universe as far as I know 🙂 The only affordable BD authoring tools are Encore (mac) and DVDit Pro(PC). Other than that, it’s the Stratosphere. Although there is a company called Netblender which will be offering a BD tool soon:
And I’ll bet anyone there will be absolutely no BD support in DVDSP this year 🙂 I’m hoping though.
