Is it that you don’t see ANY colors in your Color palette, or that you’re not seeing CMYK? If it’s the latter, you need to choose CMYK from the palette menu or Shift-click in the color spectrum at the bottom of the palette. Not sure if that helps or not…

I’m probably too late to help you, but it sounds like you have a paragraph rule on (rule above or rule below)…put your cursor in one of the affected paragraphs, and go to the paragraph panel and choose paragraph rules. Check the pull down menu for rule above and rule below and see if either is checked. If you want the rule to occur after every paragraph, then you should build a paragraph style and build the rule into it. Hope that helps!

I know this it WAY too late to help you, but the problem was probably that the text frame in question had “Ignore Text Wrap” checked in the Text Frame Options dialog. Maybe it will be of help to someone else checking this post…

Are you on a Mac? If so, you might want to Repair Permissions (Applications–>Utilities–>Disk Utility and click the HD name and Repair Permissions)…a good idea every once in a while and definitely when things start acting wonky. If you’re on a PC, not sure if there is an equivalent sort of task.

To create a text frame, yes…just choose the type tool and click and drag out a text frame. Then you can copy/paste text or type directly in the text frame. If you’ve already created a frame using the shape tools (rectangle or whatever), you can change it to a text frame by going to the Object Menu and choosing Content–>Text.
When you set text wrap on a picture, it will force text in ANY frame that gets near it to wrap…and it doesn’t matter what the stacking order is for the objects. To get the frame with the caption to NOT wrap text around the object in question: select the text frame with containing the caption with the Selection Tool (solid arrow), go to the Object menu and choose Text Frame Options. Near the bottom there is a check box that says Ignore Text Wrap…check that box. Now, that frame will ignore ANY text wrap settings on any object it comes in contact with.

If the text frame is on the Master Page, then by updating it on the Master, it will update all document pages based on that master. However, if it’s not doing that, I would guess that the text frame might have been “pulled off” the Master page by overriding the Master page item. So, on the document page, can you click to select the text frame in question? If so, that means it’s been overridden (by Command-Shift-clicking or Ctrl-Shift-clicking on a PC). To re-attach it to the Master page, select the text frame on the document page and choose “Remove Selected Local Overrides” from the Pages panel flyout menu. Just FYI, if you reapply a Master page to a document page, you shouldn’t get duplicates of the items…unless they’ve been overridden, as shown…so you’re doing it right…though if you make a change on the Master, there’s no need to re-apply…the changes are instant.

Hi there…glad you’re using InDesign. As a PageMaker user, you’ll want to make sure you have your “PageMake toolbar” turned on to help you transition…I think they added that in CS3, but might have been CS2…can’t remember. Anyway, yes, there is a pasteboard for each page, essentially. But for using items you need quick, and possibly multiple, access to, I’d suggest using a library. When you create a library (File–>New–>Library), it’s document independent and floats in its own palette/panel. If there’s an item you want to use from your page, simply drag it into the Library. Next time you want to place that on a page, grab it from the library and drop it onto the page. You can put all items on a page as a group in a library, or each item individually. You can even put things like sets of guides in a library…but you can’t drag and drop, you’ll need to use the Libary Panel menu (It will give you a warning and instructions if you try to drag and drop guides). You can even assign keywords and do a search feature to library items. Check out libraries…much better than having a bunch of junk lying all around your page!

Clicking quickly 4 times will select the entire paragraph…unless you have the preference “triple click to select a line” de-selected. If so, you only need to click 3 times to select a paragraph (double-click is a word, triple-click is a line if selected in prefs, and 4 clicks is a paragraph)…it sounds like you might have that preference de-selected and so when you hit the 4th click, you’re back to square one with your cursor just sitting there.
If you are making adjustment to paragraph-level settings (alignment, margins, etc. from the paragraph palette), you only need to have your cursor in the paragraph. If you’re trying to change type or other character level settings, then you will need to select everything.

What version of InDesign are you using? InBooklet is built in to CS2 and they’ve added in Build Booklet (from PageMaker) into CS3. If you can get hold of the PageMaker plugin pack they were selling a while back, it includes InBooklet. Just a thought…
