The source video is an mp4 and I wonder if that has anything to do with it, as editing some HVX shot MXF clips using Raylight doesn’t have the same problems. Initially the render starts at breakneck speed, the first 10% go way faster than on the old system, but about then they slow to a crawl and start doing 2 or 3 frames per second.
With luck, I’ll never get an mp4 source file again.

Indeed it is, a dual core Turion. Perhaps those extra two cores in the desktop have low self esteem because they can’t compete with Intel chips.

Most of the changes to pI since my disk was released have been under the hood. I think the only lessons that would change slightly would be the ones on pIRender, since rendering large size clips is handled automatically now, and a bit on loading emitters might be different. Other than that, the software hasn’t had any major changes.
Aharon did release a free update to his DVD from 6.5 to 7 that’s downloadable from his website, but nothing since.

I couldn’t get it to start when installing 3.01, might’ve just been that I needed to . But once I updated to 3.03 it works fine so far. This was on my laptop, will install on my new workstation soon and see what happens there.

Your best bets for going out to Flash are to render an AVI using an uncompressed codec like Huffy or Lagarith, or to render out a sequence of PNG files, which you can bring into Flash as a clip.

One possibility is that it’s not playing back at full speed because the clip is just really big and your system can’t play it back with all the particles at full speed. Does it play half speed once you render the project out, or only when played back in particleIllusion?
It could also be a difference between the frame rate of your original clip and your project in particleIllusion. Double-check in the project settings that they are the same, though you should be given a warning when you are importing the video about a difference.

I would think that that suggestion has to do with keeping your OS separate from your work files in case for some reason you need to reformat/reinstall your OS. It also makes things easier if you’re switching to a new computer, as you can just insert the old drive into your new computer and keep working on your files, without spending a lot of time deleting applications from your old system.

I don’t have a HDV camera so don’t know for sure, but whether you’re using AVIs and .m2t files togther in Vegas shouldn’t have any affect on the final output. I often mix mpegs with quicktimes, AVIs and image sequence and never have any issues.
