Wow.
I’d like to thank everyone for their very active responses to my post. I kinda figured I wouldn’t get much response and thusly didn’t check this board for a couple of days. Apparantly I was wrong 😛
Everyone’s advice seems to be very solid and I think I may try to adapt some of the lines of thought many of you were suggesting. While I share the frustraton some of you expressed in my position in the Air Force, as it was said, we don’t get to choose what we do and this is the card I was dealt. However, I can’t complain and I should mention that the local AFN detachment has already accomodated me very well in the past. I approached the local AFN NCOIC (boss) and asked if I could help out with some graphic projects, and sure enough not only did the let me do a couple of backdrops, they used them on TV a couple weeks later! (Imagine my disguist when one of their troops, a kid about my age, responded to my explanation of the graphics by asking ‘What’s Afer Effects?’)
Anywho, I’m leaving my local station soon to head to the middle east for a bit (no where dangerous, don’t worry) and am going to see if there are any media outlets I can get invovled with there. Again I can’t thank everyone in this forum enough for their input. To have real media professionals lending me advice is greater than gold.
And to answer one writers question, I’ll be in middle Illinois/border of Iowa. If I decide to try and get some education with some real substance, however, I probably be looking in the Chicago region.
And no, I don’t speak german. I can, however, fluently order a beer at the local pub 😛
Thanks so much to everyone again,
Matt
