I tried it at first with a Rocketfish bluetooth dongle, and got no change. Even though the BestBuy guy told me it would work on mac, it turns out he was wrong. I figured out that you can install a utility from Apple called “Bluetooth Explorer”, which shows which bluetooth receiver you’re currently using, and also lets you switch between them. So I bought an IOGear dongle, and now everything works great!

Yeah that sounds like the best option, thanks. Now this might be a dumb question, but how do you get OS X (10.8) to use the USB bluetooth dongle? It defaults to the internal bluetooth receiver, and I can’t find any way in the GUI to change that.

Well it’s gotten worse. After updating to Mountain Lion, and updating the BM software, the Media Express app doesn’t make any difference. Now I simply can’t pair the mouse at all. Period. I tried a Magic Trackpad — same thing. I called Blackmagic support and got this response:
We are aware of the issue. It seems to affect about 1% of systems. We tried to solve it and failed, so we gave up. Suggestion: Use a Kona. -
What a strange problem this is. I just bought a Decklink SDI for my new 5,1 Mac Pro and I’m having the Magic Mouse problem too. But it seems to be software-related. When I’m not using the SDI card for anything, the mouse works well about 70% of the time, occasionally disconnecting or tracking slowly. BUT if I open the Blackmagic Media Express app, the mouse immediately stops tracking. If I switch (cmd-tab) to another application, the mouse instantly works fine. Switching back and forth to Media Express always causes the problem.

December 14, 2011 at 10:31 am in reply to: Surround sound mix, file delivery and 5.1 export channel orderI’m confused about channel order settings. You say to use L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs, and that’s what I’ve heard also from the projectionist at my school. But here I have a problem:
I’m trying to burn a blu-ray to an .img file using the basic template in Compressor 3. I’ve exported my FCP timeline as a quicktime movie with 6 discrete audio channels for the 5.1 mix, using the standard order (L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs). But in Compressor’s Dolby Digital settings, there is no option to match that order. The closest thing is “3/2 (L, C, R, Ls, Rs)” with a checkbox to enable low frequency effects. Does this mean I need to re-export from FCP with the non-standard channel order, just to make Compressor happy? This seems weird. -
I have a piggyback question:
I want to encode a quicktime file just like the OP, but I want the audio tracks to be encoded as AAC because this is for online distribution. However, the only way I can get the SMPTE DTV setting to appear like you said is by selecting Linear PCM. In AAC mode, the only 5.1 option is (C, L, R, Ls, Rs, LFE). That’s not the order I used, so I imagine that won’t work for me. I know it must be possible, because moves purchased from iTunes come with 5.1 AAC audio. I suppose I could re-export from FCP with this nonstandard track order, but is there any other way? -

December 9, 2011 at 12:07 am in reply to: 5.1 and stereo mix possible in one audio file? You can encode both mixes on the DVD and set the stereo track as the default. Even without a menu, the projectionist could select the 5.1 track using the DVD player remote if he or she wanted to.

I have essentially the same question as the OP. My online system is Avid DS, so I can’t send the fcp project. I know I can export a TIFF sequence from FCP, but that seems like a monstrous waste of drive space, so I’m wondering if there’s a more efficient way.

November 30, 2011 at 9:59 pm in reply to: 5D and EOS Plugin for FCP daylight savings time problemI have this same problem. I tried changing the date/time as you said, but FCP still won’t recognize the clips in L&T. It seems like maybe FCP keeps a cache somewhere of drives mounted in L&T, and maybe I need to delete this cache. I have no idea where it would be though.

November 28, 2011 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Log & Transfer error: “Nothing to process”Hi there. I just read Jeremy’s blog you mentioned. I sort of had an instinctual feeling that might be a problem, which is why I originally archived the cards to read-only disk images, like someone recommended on that thread. Since each card is then mounted as its own volume, the file path should be identical to the original. Surely the location of the dmg itself wouldn’t matter, would it? If that’s the case, I don’t know the name of the drive or the filepath that was originally used. Could I find that information somewhere, hidden in an xml inside my fcp project or something?
