    Hi,

My name is Rose and i’m trying to export subtitles from a pre-existing FCP timeline. I assumed i’d be able to turn off the other layers and export the subtitle channel with an alpha to then import that into our online system. I’ve tried different combinations of export including quicktime uncompressed 8-bit (which produced no alpha channel), quicktime none millions+ (which produced an alpha channel but in the instances where there were no subtitles it put black frames), TIFF sequence (which extended the text in the spaces so there were no instances where there was not a subtitle on screen) and a TGA sequence which did much the same as the quicktime none.

I’m starting to get really frustrated and am hoping there is some simple option i’m forgetting to check.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Rose

The standard would be the animation codec millions of colors+ and use “straight” alpha matte for cleanest results. Be sure let the next system know that you’re using straight alpha matte, and not premultiplied.

Is your online system FCP? Because the obvious answer would be to simply hand over the FCP project if that’s the case.

I have essentially the same question as the OP. My online system is Avid DS, so I can’t send the fcp project. I know I can export a TIFF sequence from FCP, but that seems like a monstrous waste of drive space, so I’m wondering if there’s a more efficient way.
