We are planning to transcode to DNx115. Can the mxf files be on the same drive as the AMA linked files? And work flow wise, once the transcoding is finished from a bin, should we create a separate bin to move the AMA files to? Or should they be deleted? I would like to keep them in case we run into glitches with our transcoded files and have to transcode again.

Finally, I just wanted to confirm that transcoding to 115 is good to go for finishing. We are doing a very simple color correction. Currently, we’re cutting a long trailer and then will be cutting an hour doc from the media.

The .MOV files are H.264.

One more question. If we end up transcoding the footage – Do you know a range of how long it would take to transcode, say 40 hours? And also is DNx115 ok to cut with that and then take it to finishing. We are doing simple color correcting.

I did use MPEG streamclip and it worked
using Apple ProRes 422 when I cut into
a sequence with no render needed.

However, when I tried it with DV/DVCPRO-NTSC,
The sequence needed rendering.

Since I’m pulling clips from a DVD, what compression
rate would you recommend? I figured Apple Pro Res 422
wouldn’t be necessary since the DVD has already
compressed. I’m not very well informed with
compression settings, but I assumed 422 wasn’t
really needed. The output will just be for another
DVD or small internet link to view the quicktime.

My main concern is to not have to render each time
a clip is edited into the timeline. I did respond to
change sequence settings to match clip settings for
the DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, but the clip in the timeline
still needed to be rendered.

When I highlight all the clips and right click and choose remove attributes, my choices
are to remove Basic Motion- not scale…

I also have several areas where I have made boxes and split screens and resized clips within the
boxes. And this strips them of the effects.

I did try it though and it does rescale and remove the stretched images on the clips that are
without effects embedded in them.
