  • You da man! I had set in the beginning to max allowable for still image cache but it somehow got knocked down.

    Closing down the 24 sequences and upping the still image cache gave me a brand new 8 core mac!! Nice!

    Thanks bud!

  • Ok, I had 24 of them open. It started out as me wanting to keep the original project open that was given to me. Then I duplicated the project and was working on that one.

    I now have 8 total sequences open and it is pretty fast, like it used to be. However, ever since swicthing my render compressor from HDV to ProRes I am getting bright green bars above my timeline. Now I undertstand that this is supposed to be real time rendering but when I play it it is fuzzy and the transitions are as Blocky as a NES.

    When I actually export a QT SC it looks good and it appears it does some more rendering then too. When I hit render it whips a screen up real fast and closes, like it’s done it’s job.

    What is happening here with my green render bar?

  • After I restarted and closed over 20 extra sequences, I try to pop the png back in and it lets me but anytime I try to do anything to the timeline (other clips too), like scale, in and out points, it says “not found”. Then when I go to another sequence that has the problem sequence nested in it. Colored wheel and Crash.

  • Even though I have more than enough Ram and CPU, does having 20+ sequences open do anything?

    It seems to be a bit better after closing a lot of the sequences.

    Also why won’t the green bar render?

  • Thanks Walter. Just as I went to turn those off FCP crashed flat out.

  • I hadn’t heard of any of those until now. I guess we get Tech Tools Deluxe for free since we have the Apple Care Plan. I am downloading the DMG now.

    So, I never got a clear answer on this. My setup should be pretty peppy, right?

  • Gosh, it’s happening with BMP and TFF too. Still memory size is maxed allowable. 10 GB ram. 1440×1080 PNG – 560KB, BMP – deleted, TFF – 2.7 MB. FCP is only thing running.

    Restarted FCP and it’s doing the same thing. Haven’t trashed prefs yet.

  • I have 10 GB of Ram.

  • I just got this message and the red screen after I dropped an exported Png back into the timeline. I have 6.5+ GB of free memory left too. Maybe this will help someone and maybe I will help myself. Can someone tell me though what “repairing permissions” is. I know what trashing preferences is and am going to do that.

  • Hey Rafael,

    I checked CPU and it was very low. When I do renders it only uses about 40% of my cpu, I wish it used more, they said ProRes was supposed to be multicore enabled.

    My Drive speed on the Graid2 (Raid 0) with the AJA System Test is 65MBps Write and 80 MB/s Read. My velociraptor is 85 MBps Read/Write and my Raid 5 (scratch disk) is 150 MBps read/write or something around that, just tested an hour or so ago.

    So:

    OS = 85 MBps read/write
    Scratch = 150+ MBps read/write
    Project Drive = 65/80 MBps Write/Read

    This should be more than enough drive speed for 1 or 2 streams of HDV (ProRes render) with a few transitions and Boris 3D titles right?
