  • Hi Dave,

I don’t know After Effects very well, but I do know AVID better than I should.

I tested my AVID Quicktime exports prior to doing the whole shebang; tests exporting clips of 29.97 fps (I did not let AVID dertimine my frame rate ‘automatically’, but set it for 29.97), video, audio & video, and audio only, all using the Animation codec (millions + colors at best quality) read & played at 29.97fps in AE.

When I exported my 17 minute QT of video only, it read and played as 1.15fps. Even though it played in QT as 29.97fps (28.69 in QT, but you mentioned to not trust the figure QT provides).

And when I export both audio & video using the same Animation setting throughout all of this, it reads and plays at 29.97fps in AE.

My guess is that the audio is acting like a clock source…or frame rate/timecode “glue”.

So I dunno the answer to any of this, but will be doing what works until I hear better.

    Thanks!
    Happy New Year!

  • Lots of tests latter, here’s what I’ve found out….

A 29.97fps Quicktime (with audio & video) exported from AVID using the Animation codec show up in the After Effects Project window as 29.97 fps.
It RAM Previews at this frame rate.
And I can export it as 29.97fps from After Effects.

However, 29.97fps Quicktime (video only) exported from AVID using the Animation codec show up in the After Effects Project window as 1.15 fps.

It RAM Previews at and exports at 1.15fps.

    WTF?

    Edward
