Looks like it was the opacity, box gone now. Thanks again.

The little box around the 3D stack icon in the layers tab for some of your layers means that those layers are being rasterized or precomped into layer order instead of ordering by z-depth. You’ll need to determine what is triggering the rasterization – it’s usually adjusting opacity, applying a blend mode, or a filter. The offender is often indicated in the Inspector with a blue LED dot.

Thanks for you help on this.

Sorry could you be more specific on where the ‘…3D stack icon…’ is and where the blue LED would be in the inspector?

    Thanks again,

    Ed

Ah I’ve just had a thought, could it be that I have the video at the bottom? I thought that if it was in 3D space that didn’t matter?

    Hi again,

Right looks like I’ve solved it, I’ve set the frame off-set in FCP to 6 frames then downloaded a free plug in called ‘Line Up’ from NuGen Audio (you need to sign up to news letter to get access).

Not overly sure of how I’ve set it up but it looks like it’s doing the audio delay compensation a treat! Bit of a pain, wish there was an audio delay option with the card its self instead of going around the houses like this.

If anyone has any better ideas please let me know!

    Cheers,

    Ed

Thanks Jason, I guess it’s going to be a ‘stuck it and see’ situation. I’m running on a old Powerbook 1.5Ghz PP with 10.4 but my major issue is that I’ve lost a DIM slot so only running with 1GB RAM! I know, I know but I’ve been told that the only way to fix it is to buy a new mac and that’s not an option at the moment.

Anyway I’ll probably blag a decent computer for the grade so I think I’ll be able to limp along with the Powerbook for the basic edit.

What I would like to know is, will a Firewire 800 drive be able to handle the datarate of AIC and Pro Res? I know theoretically it can but what’s the deal in practice?

    Thanks,

    Ed

I thought that might be the way it needed to be done but I wasn’t sure.

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your reply, I’ll take that into consideration.

The question really was regarding how exactly you convert from HDV to AIC via media manager if it’s possible?

    Thanks again,

Very very true, I’m going to give it a go anyway but this project is on a tight deadline so it might just have to stay how it is.

    Thanks for your help.
