If I recall correctly, there was some announcement or email (or tweet) a while back from Alan saying that emitter libraries would only be released quarterly from now on…

Agreed, Noah. The more I think about it, the more I realize this would be a good grab and go camera-a nice extra tool for the arsenal.

Thanks, Noah. I guess what I’ll need to do is pick one up locally and do some comparisons on my own. Though I did notice it doesn’t shoot in RAW format. So that’s a huge consideration too.

Erik, I found that variable bitrate gives the best results, though the file expands to about 5x the size of the CBR render with the VBR quality set at 100%. At 80% VBR, the file looked great with only about a 10% file size increase. This appears to be the sweet spot! Cassisus, decreasing the keyframe interval from 5 to 4, then all the way down to 2 produced only moderate improvements (while keeping the file size low). (Maybe because my transitions are all less than 1 second?) This forum continues to be invaluable to me and the community as a whole. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. You too, Dave!

    Hi Todd,
I have CS5 Production Premium installed on my Windows 7 Ultimate laptop. I am willing to bet that like me, others lean on a handful of their plugins heavily (Hello, Trapcode?). I see that several of Trapcode’s most popular ones are available in 64-bit for an upgrade price of $29. Well, 5 plugins means almost $150, which I don’t currently have. So, my plan is to ALSO install the 32-bit versions of After Effects and Premiere Pro CS4 (graciously provided by Adobe for owners of 32-bit OS’s) on the same machine in order to use said (32-bit) plugins.
So I can run AFX CS4 to use my plugins (til I can afford to upgrade them to 64-bit), render those effects and then use those files in CS5 in order to take advantage of the new features. Does this sound like the right solution? I am sure I’m not alone on this. On a related note, is this 32 vs 64-bit issue also present in Photoshop Cs5? (That is, can I run current plugins in 64-bit or must they be installed for the x86 PS executable?) Thanks.

Thanks, Peter. I called today and the answer is YES, they do allow a second activation specifically for laptops. I’m sold! Thanks.
    Happy New Year fellow cows!

Thanks, Jan. I figured it out by unchecking multiprocessing. Thanks for your quick reply!
Just curious, what sort of system specs are needed to take advantage of multiprocessing? I bought a quad core machine for this very purpose. (The Gateway FX box came with Vista 64-bit pre-installed. But I had to roll it back to XP Pro due to WAY too many incompatibilities with audio plugins.) I am disappointed it appears I cannot use this capability. Thanks again!

Thanks for your response, Alan. I followed your directions to export “raw” emitter avi’s. The upper field-first versions were expectedly choppy. The lower field ones were all crisp and “video-like”, using both codecs. And the no fields versions looked, well, like no fields video. Actually, even with background avi’s, the particle effects in the lower field-first versions are crisp and clean. But always the underlying video ends up with the no-fields look exported from PI3, using with and without motion blur and/or alpha. Again, I had no problem at work getting the lower field look at work using Canopus DV Avis. Very strange.
