Thanks everybody for the really valuable responses. Okay, here’s what I’m thinking should be done to this project, let me know if you see a fault to my logic:
In this case, I think we are basically using the Avid to serve as a bridge between my FCP system and a digibeta deck. I don’t have an AJA Kona card, or an iO box.
Would we be killing a lot of video quality by not rebatch capturing the sequence on an Avid, and just importing a single large media file or DV tape? Wouldn’t a DV-quality quicktime movie from FCP be pretty close in quality to the original DV footage? Do we really need to use an EDL if the media exists in DV to begin with? It’s not like I’ve sacrificed a lot of quality importing it into FCP, right?
Since Avid doesn’t have a “16×9” setting like FCP, it seems like I should just run the media through the Avid to make a digibeta master, then go to a transfer house to reformat the material to the correct aspect ratio on a dbeta dub. This seems like it would maintain the highest image quality on our master in order to make an HD uprez. Right?
