Indeed MacDrive doesn’t run on XP 64. Check out TransMac https://www.asy.com/. It’s not as pretty as MacDrive but it gets the job done.

I also have better luck rendering out uncompressed from AE and then doing my H264 compression through Quicktime. This may also be helpful for you to troubleshoot your problem. If you export uncompressed and the pixel aspect ratio is still off then you know it’s a problem with your AE render, but if it looks fine then it’s an issue with your H264 compression settings. Plus Quicktime makes prettier H264 videos.

Are you sure that the QT file is .9 or does it just look like it. What I mean is, have you confirmed what the pixel aspect ratio is through QTs “Movie Inspector”? If it just looks off when you open it in QT that’s because you’re viewing it on a monitor (1:1) and not through PPro or another program that might pixel aspect ratio correction to compensate for a square pixel monitor.

Carefully planned shooting, rotoscoping and compositing. No quick tricks. Here’s one that’ll still blows me away https://youtube.com/watch?v=eO5KcaGFR7c&feature=related

  • You are correct..AE, in general, does tend to do better compression than PP. That said, a fool-proof method for exporting out of Premiere would be to output an Uncompressed Quicktime .mov, bring it into AE when you can encode it for DVD (mpeg-2). Avoid transcoding your video in Encore at all costs (it will probably want to transcode your audio, but that’s fine).

Also… there is a “huge book” with info on all the different encoding settings, it’s called Creative Cow. Keep reading the forums and you’ll be in good shape. In the mean time I’d suggest familiarizing yourself with the various flavors of Quicktime output…Uncompressed (lossless), Animation (compressed) and H264 (excellent for the web) are all good starting places.

    Good luck.

I’m a big fan of PP but not being able to output to OMF is a huge pain.

I’ve been encountering the same issues. Thanks a lot for the apps, these will be a huge help in troubleshooting.

  • If you select a P2 footage item in your bin, go to “Clip,” “Audio Options,” then “Channel Mappings” you can select which audio tracks are linked with each clip.

    Good luck.

  • That’s correct. I’m a student and have access to decks, IO cards and Avid Mojos so I hope to put off buying card for my own system for as long as I can. So, I unfortunately cannot give you much information about driver compatibility, though this info should be easy enough to find on the net. Good luck!

  • Currently running QT 7.4.1
