  • Hi There,

    FCP7.0.3, Color 1.5.3

All footage was transcoded before the start of the project into Apple Pro Res 422 1280×720 25fps

Color was set to render to quicktime and the export codecs to Original Format.

The frame rate in Color is 24fps despite the FCP seq being 25fps

Just been playing about and if I re-send the project with the issue to Color the problem is not there in Color itself. Also this new import has the correct fram rate of 25.

I’m just trying to export this re-import now to see if the problem remains, really just playing with buttons however.

edit: the result of that was that after sending the footage back to Final Cut I now have an even more messed up time line with little segments of video left on it, rather than it all looking like it is there but the video being black.

  • Chris K –
What you are describing is kinda my point, your friend would not be described as a “pro”, “semi-pro” perhaps. But in aspiring to be a professional in the industry myself I am beginning to wonder if I will receive the same love from Apple as your friend. I don’t doubt Apples business sense for one second.

    Chris W –
I’m going to be really intrigued to see the reviews that come up in the next few weeks, and also Apples response to the pro market. This seems like it should have been released as a separate product for a separate market, there is so much missing that is essential to the pro editor that I wonder how long it will take Apple to accommodate them. As an aspiring editor I want to be able to diversify my skills across any new platforms that may be useful for the future, but with its limited workflow it seems like I will be stuck in FCP7 for some time yet.

  • Just had a read of: https://library.creativecow.net/adcock_gary/FCPX/1

-and it seems to suggest that perhaps there is a light at the end of the tunnel, that this release is simply waiting on the “professional” update. But why release a half-baked product? Apple may know its not for the pros yet, but if they know this why release it, its called Final Cut ‘Pro’ after all. I know apple can make great products, however much I may dislike the way they go about it, but do I invest now in the blind hope that they will actually make their ‘pro’ product actually work for ‘pros’ at some unknown point in the future?

Exactly what I was looking for, shame there is no snap but its a small cavet.

Thank you so much, my job just got a lot simpler, looks like I may have to invest in DH_Box as well, thanks again!

Yea, i was always aware that it was a lack of frames leading to this problem, but I never for a second thought my sirector would go for a lower resolution. Having a higher FPS combined with the technique mentioned by Jim should have me completely sorted. So a big thnks to all the helpful suggestions.

Just like to say a big thanks for your advice mate, sorted out my problem completely, got nice trails behind the drumsticks now.

Even better is that ive convinced my director to shoot at 720p down from 1080p but with double the framerate at 50fps, make things easier still.

    Thanks again!

Honestly, im amazed at how closed minded some people here are. You clearly dont see what i mean by emitting in a curve, and reguardless as you will see if you read the rest of this thread a solution has already been posted for my problem. What would you know.

Ahh, the typical condecending post, no i’m not new to “all this video stuff” I wouldnt be using after effects if i didnt have a basic knowledge of how frames work.

X amount of particles are emitted each second, they can be emitted in a curve, or a straight line or whatever shape you like, if i have 4 point i can create a cirle with 4 bendy lines.

I never said the software was at fault, the software exists to make these things possible for user. If I want to be able to create it I should be able to, and Adobe gets half my bank account.
