ok you guys were right about the photoshop map, thanks for the offset tip… I fixed it, it’s nice now, The UVS still pinch as they go up but it’s not a big issue… now i’m having a different issue
My displacement map always seems to be a positive protrusion… I’m using Intensity Centered with a rgb 50 percnt gray background and black stripes on it, and it doesn’t matter if i do 100 percent strength with 2 eight, -100 percent strength with 2 height, or what, it always seems to look like the DARK areas are protruding, not indenting… any ideas why?

thanks for your reply… is there a way i can keep the area where the bottle tapers from squeezing the texture??? I think it’s also becoming more drastic at the top due to that…
The UV coordinates, if I apply a checker pattern… the checkers are normal at the bottom but they hug inward as it goes to the narrow part… is there a way i can stretch/skew the UVS out at the top so they checker pattern stays consistent ?

Do you think it kinks more at the top like that because the bottle tapers at that point???
The photoshop file is perfect, it connects in the exact same width as it runs off on the left side, and it’s very smooth transition… but on the bottle it has a point to it where it welds together at the seam…
I’m not a UVW wrap pro so… I’m guessing I need to RELAX a select set of polygons, perhaps stretch the top so that it doesn’t taper when it wraps??? am i thinking correctly?

I figured it out, I was in the wrong tool mode for scale to be recorded.

Thanks for the update, Dann is actually who I’m most likely hiring, and I’ve been talking with him over email. I saw several recommendations for him online… that guy gets around 😉
Thanks, yeah I was wondering if the outside render managers only need a working copy of c4d to work, or do they require c4d’s built in “net render console” to work… I don’t think mine came with that… But i heard the built in manager isn’t that great… so if i was going to purchase it i might as well do an outside one.
Here is that grocery aisle i’ve been working on that I was getting all of your advice on earlier, I was about done but now i’m reworking the order of product and a few other things… but it’s come along nicely thanks to the help from this forum. Especially on decreasing render times.

Here is my latest render guys!! check it out.. I think the floor depicts a grocery store way more than the last one… and I added some detail to the lights, the fade at the tips like real lights now.. and I made the illumination color a bit off white..
if you guys have any more suggestions on details/realism/compliments, keep it coming hehe 😉

June 22, 2012 at 8:09 pm in reply to: How long did it take you to learn C4D well enough before you were able to use it professionally?I would say if you do small tutorials on a semi daily basis and do ongoing projects in 3d that you’ll be pretty damn good after a year or so… I still come on here with tons of questions but i’ve been using 3d on and off for over 15 years… i started with 3d studio release 4 back in the 90s and once i was 16 and could drive a car i quit doing 3d and started partying, I did some 3d in college in 3dsmax, then i didn’t do any for several years again, then this job i have requires some so i started doing it again in cinema4d…
I would say out of all the programs i’ve used (maya and 3dsmax) cinema4d is the most user friendly and easy to learn…. but that doesn’t meant it’s any less powerful… it seems to be reaching the level of all the other programs fairly quickly, but i don’t even have the version 12 or 13 yet… i’m in 11.5 … the good thing is, once you learn one 3d program, they are all very similar… the interface is just different.

Thanks guys, you guys are really helpful and i’ve posted questions/info on several forums but this one seems to get the quickest and best feedback… some of my other posts like on c4dcafe get viewed 60 times with no replies.
Just wanted to say thanks!!

Thanks!!! you’re very helpful as always.
Btw i don’t think that option is available in 11.5… man i need r13 😉 maybe i can talk my company into upgrading (doubtful)

Here is another render with a white background and the liquid shrunk quite a bit…. if i shrink it any further it looks crazy… do you guys have any idea why it’s reacting like this?
I’ve tweaked a ton of things and couldn’t get rid of it for life of me… I’m try to exhaust all kinds of ideas before i even come here and ask.
